Non-portable recorder?

Hi all!

I was looking around for a new recording device that records 96kHz/24, and have checked the various threads here, but it occurred to me that I don't need it to be all that portable, nor do I really need built in mics, as I plan on using binaurals... I wonder if there's an option out there for me for cheaper than the better portable field recorders, because it's older and simpler...?

I don't really want to use my computer to record, as it's loud and I'd have to run wire to it from the room over, which seems a little silly (or is it..?)..

I'll be using it in the spare room that acts as my studio most exclusively, and primarily to record acoustic and electro-acoustic (of course!) instruments.


Any thoughts would be appreciated!

on second thought, a firewire input that allows my computer to record at higher bitrates may well be the thing to look at... I guess I could work around some long cables...

Have heard good things about it, though I don't know if it would be compatible with your recording setup.

I used to use an Akai DPS-16, which can be had pretty cheap and are awesome. The biggest problem was that you need to use a SCSI cd-burner to get info off the machine, but I know more current CD burners can be housed in SCSI enclosures...

Anyway, great, intuitive machine.
