so i'm going to be building a studio/practice room in my basement. my neighbors are about 15 feet away on either side, so it has to be pretty soundproof. i already have these ideas for the room:
glass block windows (already installed)
building four walls (two of them right in front of the brick basement walls), all insulated (is there a special insulation for soundproofing?)
insulating between the room's ceiling and my floor
one of my biggest dilemmas is the door to the room. would a metal door be more or less effective than a wooden one?
i don't have a lot of money to work with, so i won't be able to buy all that fancy studio foam stuff. i'm just looking for pointers.
my old practice room had lots of carpet/furniture/etc to absorb echo in the room. i'm assuming this also helps the whole soundproofing scenario as well.
i hate inexpensive soundproofing

I helped my uncle build a soundproofed basement a few years ago.
egg foam really would be nice in between the brick and a wall of soundboard, then standard drywall, but as you know, the foam is expensive. You could always use those cardboard egg crates from grocery stores.
not sure about the door, I would think metal to be worse.
