still no picture, but at the moment it's a Korg KP3 KaossPad, with a mic right up to the adapter and using the Eq2 setting with the 'hold' button; I then just twiddle the two knobs (input strength and effect strength) for however long I like it - through the headphone output into crappy carboard speakers.
The results are dreamy-droney all the way through to droney-abrasive. I like doing it a lot I have to say. I am thinking of getting a speaker/mixer combo - I think I saw one that's just one all-in option - that would do me just fine. Any tips?

Lenovo-era Thinkpads aren't generally known for their build quality. I'm typing this on an X61 tablet, and its clasp broke within months of purchase (among other niggling problems). Fine, utilitarian machine, but I wouldn't toss it around. And I won't be buying another one when this one shits the bed.

I do use the nipple, though.

Yeah, not sure where the Lenovo era starts but mine is a Chinese made T40. There were Mexican made ones around the same time that apparently have build issues.

The only other models I've had my hands on/seen in action are a T60 that's been to the desert a few times on business trips and Mattin subjecting his to various "unofficial" procedures

What would you replace it with though? I'm not sure what is good for "business-grade" laptops these days... what are the best, most durable PC laptops available for musicians these days?

I honestly don't know. I'll prolly end up replacing mine with some kind of iPad or similar--I use it for teaching and rely heavily on the tablet feature.
