granular synthesis programs for MAC

Post by frogger »

Which ones do people recommend? I was always a HUGE fan of Granulab for PC, so I am looking for something quite possibly like that, but am open to suggestions for other programs.

The Studiotoolz website (http://www.studiotoolz.net/) is a good place to search for free mac software. Just search "Granular" and you'll get plenty of results.

Ive always been happy with lloopp/ppooll (http://ppooll.klingt.org/index.php/Main_Page) for my granular needs.

Audiomulch 2.0 is now available for Mac. It's excellent and features a few different granular processing modules! It does Granulation and Pulse-train stuff... Great.

There's also Curtis Roads' programs Cloud Generator and other programs

He's the leading light of the whole granular THING! Wrote the book "Microsound" which is pretty much the bible of Grain-based sound. He's also an amazing composer.

Tom Erbe's +bubbler plugin is nice if you are feeling the whole "free" thing.

I guess after that it depends on how you sit w/Audiomulch and further on, Reaktor and MaxMSP.

I go with the latter two items there. Reaktor's granular processing I've always found to be tops.
