hey that sounds great Doug, the sounds have a real 'wallop', great presence to them

have you got any recordings out?

Thank you very much...

No, no recordings. I wouldn't even begin to know how to go about that process. No idea. I have no talent for self promotion....

I guess this thread is my creative outlet...( plus one or two noisy things posted over at iheartnoise, but that stuffs anomalous..I just post there to go slumming  )

ah, shame that....

still there's plenty in this thread to be getting on with I suppose

(the mention of this thread is mostly intended to mean what it says, and only very slightly a nudge to my piece 'Bulstrode Whitelocke' above to anyone out there) - just to clarify

Still if you went back through all the things you have posted here and made a sort of 'best of Dohol' compilation type thing for people to download all at once I'm sure quite a few would oblige (myself included)

Seconded... A lot of the older links on this thread have expired by now...

FWIW, I've enjoyed a lot of your pieces Dohol (a couple have even made their way onto my iPod). I'd be really interested in hearing a comp of your stuff from this thread... and possibly beyond 8-)

This afternoons improvisation.

(On my beaten up, acoustic, randomly turned, fretless and otherwise abused guitar..)

If you don't want to download it, listen to it at this myspace. This myspace is for Hanah Montana. I thought it would be funny to make a Hannah Montana myspace, only with one less "n", Hanah Montana, and put my own music on it. It isn't really funny to anyone except me, but that's why it says that I'm Hanah Montana. The good song is called "lalala ooo eeeeeee". Don't listen to the other songs. I don't like them.

After including two timpani drums in a recent performance of the feedback piano stuff I have been working on I decided to try some similar systems on the timps alone. This is a the first recording I made this week, about ten minutes long, two timps, mic'd separately with condensers panned hard left/right, feedback vibrating the skins and small objects (shells, thin metal sheet and a wind chime) placed on top. Much under the influence of Jon Mueller in non-beating mode and slightly less so Jeph Jerman circa Instability Studies.

feedback appreciated.

"feedback appreciated"

Pun intended?

I really liked that..a lot.

What do you use to drive ( excite? ) the tympani?

Yes, pun intended.

Timpanis are excited by the feedback. And they have a tuning pedal so if I was really good I could get a sliding feedback tone out of them. I can but hope.

Today's percussion/amplification track. Not sure if it's any good. It's at least better than the other 40 minutes of playing I recorded.

Thinking about what Jesse K mentioned in the mixer thread. Music made from junk, from the cheapest resources available..

Why not?

This was made with a sheet of foam packing ( a separator for apples actually.. free ) my contact mic made from a piezo salvaged from a toy ( free ) a violin bow ( $12, the most expensive piece ) a $9 mic and recorded with a bit of freeware..

Something of a throwaway..but some of the sounds have potential.

Whenever i get bored or i need to take my mind off something else that I'm working on, i'll mix around bits and pieces of other peoples music to make new music. I guess it's called sampling. I set up this myspace for all of my sampling experiments
http://www.myspace.com/shibbydoowah
this doesn't sound anything like the album i just posted in the promotion section.
there's one song made completely out of sounds from frank Zappa's Uncle Meat album.
There's another song that i made out of bits and pieces from various songs, i don't even remember where a lot of them came from, but the main theme to it is Screaming Jay Hawkins "i put a spell on you" and some vocals from Yoko Ono. This was the first thing i ever tried with sampling.
Then there's a smash hit dance single made out of vocals from Florence Foster Jenkins, one of the worst singers of all time. She somehow managed to have a career. She even played Carnegie Hall. her records are pretty entertaining. read about her here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Foster_Jenkins
There's also this 5 second thing i did with beatboxing.
None of it is very good. This isn't the music that i'm most proud of. I kind of like it, but it's just the stuff i do when i'm bored. nothing special.

no problem. i'm getting kicked out of my studio, so all of my unfinished stuff is to remain demos i guess. I might not have a studio again for a really long time, so i thought i'd get it out there. I don't know when or if i'd ever be able to finish them. i'm trying to finish something that i'm much more proud of at the moment. i'll post that when it's done. I just thought i'd warn people that this isn't a great representation of my music, but i still thought i'd get it out there.
