Paul Verhoeven, The Fourth Man, 1983
Very stylish and De Palma-esque (not a put-down this time), and with its glacial blonde femme fatale you can see Basic Instinct coming down the line. Of course, the Gerard Reve story's pretty basic instinct to start with, the classic cocktail of Freud for Dummies and Heavy Religious Imagery, but the performances are solid and Jan de Bont's camera work impressive. A decent HD reissue would be cool.
