I would go for single, original film scores. I wouldn't consider Dmitri Tiomkin one of my favorite film composers, but his High Noon soundtrack is a favorite.
Multiple listings for the more prolific composers are fine.

No soundtrack comps -- no Scorpio Rising, Mean Streets, Pirate Radio, or That's Entertainment

I'd leave out musical comedies, adaptations from other genres (Gershwin's American in Paris, Bernstein's On The Town), and musical biopics.

Not sure about musicals written expressly for film, like Singin' In The Rain, Lili or Umbrellas of Cherbourg. What do you think?

And YouTube links are helpful but not essential. The only clip I can find from Teijo Ito's King Ubu is unrepresentative, but I do want to mention Ito!

IMDb lists 79 film scoring credits for Mellé, all but about a dozen of them for TV. Anyone recommend anything? Andromeda Strain is terrific, but I've always thought it was a one-off flash of brilliance.

I forgot the Benjamin Frankel scores. Also Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Eyes Wide Shut. I also remember liking the soundtrack to Carax's Boy Meets Girl (1984), but I think that might have been a compilation.


There are too many. I kind of wish I hadn't gotten started with this game in the first place.

Loved the music, hated the movie.
The Shostakovich (1939) had been lost, a piano score for it was rediscovered in 1999. There's also some Ligeti, Liszt, Mozart, some original music . . . and Chris Isaak's "Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing"
