Five is much closer to Bang On A Can at its schlockiest than anything Wandelweiser.

Phantoms Of Nabua has tended to be the closest point of comparison that i'm aware of, although now i think maybe Seances (seances.nfb.ca) might actually be closer (with perhaps the video game Lem Doolittle's The Entertainment being closest of all).

in general, though, i tend to come back around to thinking that attempts at comparison are rather futile and silly. i usually end up feeling that i'm just equating "movies i think sound good" with "music i think sounds good".

strictly speaking, Chulki/Lee Film Walk and Cellule D'Intervention Metamkine seem to be the only things really applicable to the area under discussion (closely followed by Aberration Of Light: Dark Chamber Disclosure and
Dark Room Filled With Light). of course there's also The Great △, Clots and Trophy Tape but then you're getting more into movie making and documentation where the interaction between mediums is more traditional.

here are some recent movies i think sound good in any case (excluding the above):
Mulholland Dr.
Rivers And Tides
Blissfully Yours
The Five Obstructions
L'Intrus
Dream Walking
Stranded In Canton
Retribution
Inland Empire
Stellet Licht
Disorder: The Present Is The Future Of The Past
Trash Humpers
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives
Bestiaire
L
The Wailing

Entertainment (2015) comes closest to capturing what it's like to be a niche performer...

and when it comes to Tarantino the most flattering thing you can say is that aside from Jackie Brown, Jakodema's Kill Bill is the best thing they ever created the conditions for (their very own Enter The Game Of Death)

also some of the Vienna stuff, Billy Roisz (the AVVA DVD I did) and much of the Index imprint (http://www.index-dvd.at/en/program.html).
