Playtime is amazing, really stretches cinema to one of its absolute extremes, I've never seen another film that compares to it. Always been interested in Confusion, the film he was planning on making with the glam rock band Sparks but unfortunately died before they could begin. Apparently M. Hulot was going to be killed off in the opening scene!

Much as I love Tati (and Sparks), I have a hard time imagining what this might have been like!

Good reads, Dan... The first one makes me really want to see Playtime.

I'll have to take a trip cross-town to the one good video store around here and see what they have.

I also like the soundtracks to Tati films - currently only available is 'selection' compilations of each film - except 'Traffic' which is available in full.

Also not on dvd yet are Tati's early film appearances (directed by others).

seeing the different versions of Jour De Fete is interesting - shot from different angles.

Trafic was released by Criterion in the US a couple of months ago:

the bonus disc on Traffic is well worth it ! the extra documentary & interviews are good for sure. I haven't actually got this dvd set yet - i'm waiting for the UK issue but i've seen it & it's good.

it really annoys me the difference between countries in terms of dvd issues & despite having a multi region dvd machine I often find it doesn't play Region 1 dvd's properly.
