Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

That's a brilliant documentary, talk about serendipity. Interesting how long it took the filmmakers to decide that the Wiebe/Mitchell conflict was the "story". Put out on a really nice DVD too.

As an additional bonus, I don't live that far from the Wiebe's so I found it amusing to see neighborhoods that I've bicycled through.

(I like that poster for it better)

thank you, Jesse! Also saw this recently:

Didn't realize until watching the special features that there was also a dubbed version in English ... Iggy Pop does the voice of the Marxist uncle.

I'm a big Ghost Dog fan; the RZA stuff is very infectious. Along with Dead Man and The Year Of The Horse, my only Jarmusch picks, not a fan of his earliest work.

I was wondering who that was - what's the track?
It's from Nuba, a Black Saint platter I picked up around '80, with Jeanne Lee on synthesizer (!).

I never knew what to make of this movie? Is it a dark comedy or a morality tale or what?
Sandler didn't have a believable role to say the least....

Saw the Dark Knight twice in the last 3 days and I'm going to see it at Imax tomorrow.

Ledger is amazing.

The only thing that bothered me in the movie was the voice of Batman. A little annoying, but nothing major, I guess.

Jim Jarmusch, Ghost Dog, 1999

This one came highly recommended by a friend but, like Dead Man, left me a little cold. Trying to find some kind of middle ground between Tarantino (sorry, but all those samurai "words of wisdom" don't do much for me) and Lynch (Henry Silva would have been perfect playing Angelo Badalamenti's expresso-spitting Italian gent in Mulholland Drive), but somehow lacking a bit of zest and humour. There are funny moments (love the old mafiosi rapping along with Flavor Flav), but Whitaker's just a bit too deadpan for my tastes. And I thought the RZA soundtrack was a bit flat too. If you want to see pigeons massacred on a rooftop, go for On The Waterfront instead.
interesting for the first 20 minutes, or maybe less.

Bizarre film, it threw me as I was told it was a 'comedy'

Z (Costa-Gavras, 1969) - Good, straightforward political thriller based on a true story. Lacks a certain artistic element in the cinematography and dialogue that Battle of Algiers possesses. If not for the fact that its a true story, this has all the hallmarks of your typical Harrison / Jack "You Cant Handle The Truth" movies. Still solid.

Coincidental that I happen to be reading Libra by Don Dellilo at the same time, as I dont happen to watch or read too much political stuff, certainly not fictional accounts of real life assassination plots . . . . . . . .
