Gerald Vizenor is a one-man genre. When I was in the AIS Dept at Arizona, I asked several people: Irvin Morris, Larry Evers, Scott Momaday, and Luci Tapahonso among others, why he's isnt taught in Native Lit classes. Their almost unanimous opinion was that no one knows how to teach stuff like the Bearheart books. Griever I think is marginally more successful than those.
