I really was into the Clusone Trio in the mid/late 90s. Back then they were a major reference point for "recent stuff" in my thesis about Han Bennink. I actually was at the festival gig that is documented on "Love Henry", taking photos, making notes, etc. It was fantastic to experience Bennink's collage approach at first hand - exactly while planning to write about it.

And... wow, how things have changed. :P

yeah, they were incredible in the early-mid 90s, probably even more so live than on record. one midnight show at the Knitting Factory was probably the closest I ever saw a jazz/improv band come to having a rock and roll type feel.

My "how things have changed" bit is there because I don't think I'd enjoy listening through a complete Clusone 3-CD these days... but maybe I just should try it again without prejudice.

n.p.:
Checking a few compilations I made for drum students of mine: Björk, St. Vincent, M.I.A., The Do, that kind of stuff. I once drove a mom crazy with the M.I.A. tracks I gave her daughter. Not sure it was because of that, but soon after she quit her drum lessons.

yeah, I was implicitly agreeing with you, I doubt I could get through 10 minutes (although again I never thought their CDs did them justice).

From what I heard of him I can say: not very much (but that impression is limited to a few 90s hat ART CDs he plays on).
These days I'm finding more inspiration for my free improv practise in this kinda drumming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UP50eBhtws8
(= basically the opposite of Hauser, on various levels)

i like this too yet feel it's so engagingly sequenced that the whole is more than the sum of its moments

was somewhat put off by the seemingly narrow scope of this, but it's growing nicely.. really well-played and the recording is excellent. great to hear Apartment House tackle a variety of terrain (james saunders, laurence crane, et al) with such frequency

edit: possible it was the recurring track titles that misdirected me, but there's strong variety and cohesion to the album.

A lot of Handel.

You know, Xmas.
