I couldn't get through this. I think it's interesting that, based on the sort of music that was being used to set Rilke by people like Berg and Schoenberg back in the 19-teens and twenties, there's a sort of expectation that that style be used now (or whenever this disc first came out). That's what Gies does here but, even if the result might have sounded nice at a concert in Vienna in 1917 (and that's not a slam dunk), now it's just dated, anachronistic, derivative, shitty.

I feel like going home is such a brutal track, it's so sad but awesome. I always thought Georgia Hubley should come out w a solo album.

along w/Dennis Johnson: November

lately, Soundtracks by Eric La Casa. Sort of the same vein as Karren by Olivia Block, really high quality. it progresses into some effectively spare, cavernous zones, unlike Karren

Gonna be in NYC this Friday night. Anything happening I shouldn't miss?

I have a mint unplayed copy of this tape, kept in a resealable cassette sleeve, I may sell it if the offer is right.

Good old powerchord, now done with choir.

Very pretty, I'm definitely on a contemporary religious music adventure lately. Discovered Kellogg only a few weeks ago.

Interesting to hear something from this period (I think the second earliest recorded solo recital after Praxis), issued in 2009. Some deep dives into melodic motifs you won't get later on, but dear lord what an awful recording. Unlistenable when he steps on the gas, so unfortunate especially in the left hand, avoid.
