Ambient Music
I've been listening to a lot of Brian Eno lately. I've turned into somewhat of a home body because of daily life stressors such as the traumatic experience I just had while moving house plus more work loads and bills and stuff.
I love Brian Eno's ambient music and am looking for recommendations of music that is similar to his albums like Thursday Afternoon and Music for Airports. His music makes me feel a lot less anxious and happy even. Thanks.

some awesome Japanese ambient from the 80s on that site.
loved the Fairlights, Mallets and Bamboo mixes.
and this: http://rootstrata.com/rootblog/?p=7819
Mix of Japanese new-age/ambient/minimalist music, mostly emanating from the corporate infrastructure of the 1980s asset bubble. FM synthesis, prefab “lifestyle” soundscapes and the illusion of nature in a hyper-urban environment.

An overlooked and very creative enclave of folks.
Re: Ambient Music
I get a lot of mileage out of Andrew Chalk's 2011 release Violin By Night. It's probably one of my favorite classic sounding ambient records, besides my Eno LPs. (The vinyl is OOP, but I'm pretty sure it's floating around the web somewhere.)

Pretty hard to go wrong with Andrew Chalk.Joda wrote:I get a lot of mileage out of Andrew Chalk's 2011 release Violin By Night. It's probably one of my favorite classic sounding ambient records, besides my Eno LPs. (The vinyl is OOP, but I'm pretty sure it's floating around the web somewhere.)

Not sure if a) I will be driven out of IHM for this and b) if this thread is the best place to bring this up, but....
Bull Of Heaven
I love these guys. They seem to be best known for the amount of vitriol that is directed their way. While I think they have a good sense of humour (they need it!), I also think they are deadly serious about acting on very radical musical ideas.
Tonight I (bathtub) listened to 099: Quetzalcoatl and the Ancient Astronauts.
This must surely be the most generous and adventurous free music site on the whole internet:

I admit that at first I thought these guys were a joke, or that all of this free music meant that it must be completely disposable / passable. But some interviews and several long listening sessions completely turned me onto the BOH philosophy. Some tracks are indeed impossible to enjoy, or even impossible to physically listen to. Many tracks are simply gorgeous, and they demand patience in a twitterfied world. There is something very Cagean about these guys, in their spirit of musical boldness.
Anyway, if you had to label a lot of BOH, "ambient" would surely come to mind.
