Yes, it's the last song in Lulu. Don't buy the negative hype, the record is very good. Hopefully Metallica will get a few cues from this experience (i.e. no need to spend a month to get a sound for the snare drum), they still have a decent album in them.

Elizabeth Cotten, Shake Sugaree

I know some purists find the gimmick of having your grandaughter singing your song with you to be sentimental and manipulative, but to me that recording is pure bliss.

i suppose most people will write them off as "pop eai" or something, but it feels like something potentially quite special is happening with this group...
You relativise it yourself by writing "or something", but I don't understand what that song could have to do with eai. Is/has been somebody from this group involved in eai, or was that an eai-band in the first place? I sure heard the electronic stuff in there, but you get that kind of discreetly noisy textures in all kinds of open-minded pop stuff that I'd never connect to eai.

Don't get me wrong - I might like that song better than 90% of eai I get to hear.

it's a band of eai musicians, to the extent that such a thing exists.

i don't think most people here write off "pop eai" at all. i have that lp but haven't listened to it yet.

A live version of "Love-Building on Fire" by Talking Heads I've found on Youtube.....Here they're more rock than usual and there aren't the horrible horns you can hear in the studio version....

olivia block - karren, "foramen magnum"

not a "song" i guess, but the first piece is so brief and chock full of tasty sounds, it reminds me of 'pieces' played for us in an electro-acoustic composition class.. EAC vs. EAI? many sources, seamlessly blended, w/bits of classical orchestra sounds and novelty. dig the dynamic range and variety. 2nd half ("opening night") is pleasantly unsettling. too bad it's a vinyl-only release

'foramen magnum' is 19:28, not sure most people would call that brief. I can actually see that perspective, since I also wish it was three times as long, but really just making sure you have the full piece.

to clarify (re: karren), i had it on in a separate room, so i wasn't very engaged. i could detect the larger swells of percussion and clamor, but the quiet parts were nearly inaudible.. deep, dark spaces where little registered. the amorphousness of it compelled me. lately have been playing it on headphones, the fusillade is rich and keeps the mind occupied. sort of like being out in violent weather, or reclining back in an empty city bus and letting the ride jostle you about. it's relaxing. sort of a 'sweet tooth' pleasure

Not 10x, but lots: Randy Newman's Baltimore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf2llVtd9pQ
and Nina Simone's great cover of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC20nRg4ptQ
Love both versions.
