So, I'm new here. I'm a London based music student and whilst I've been interested in the London improvisation and general experimental music culture for a while, I am still relatively new to all this. My question is thus:
How do you find out about this stuff? I feel certain that Cafe Oto can't be the only venue who would book Tilbury or Prévost and I'm absolutely certain that there are more gigs of this stuff than are mentioned in The Wire's concert listings, so where is it advertised?! If you could mention any venues worth considering or related info for interesting new music I'd appreciate it. Any genre is welcome, I'm as interested listening to Merzbow as I am Manfred Werder.
Thanks!

A couple of things right off the top of my head - I'm sure others will have more suggestions - but one club worth looking at is the totally charming Boat-ting (http://www.boat-ting.co.uk/). Richard Pinnell mentions various gigs on his blog (http://www.thewatchfulear.com/), and a more recent innovation is a concert calendar at Bang the Bore, which looks like a great resource (http://www.bangthebore.org/gigs). Oh, and it looks like Olivier Rodriguez may be organising gigs again: see http://smabpf.blogspot.co.uk/.

Fantastic! Thank you. I've been to Boat-ting a couple of times as it goes, and loved the family vibe it gives off. I'll definitely look into your other suggestions!Dominic Lash wrote:A couple of things right off the top of my head - I'm sure others will have more suggestions - but one club worth looking at is the totally charming Boat-ting (http://www.boat-ting.co.uk/). Re: Help out an initiate?
the LMC site used to have a good monthly schedule, but that seems to be gone now (along with the LMC, I guess?).

Maybe redundant with the aforementioned links, but Entr'acte sometimes lists some events in several London venues.

Soundworks
19 June 2012 – 16 September 2012
London Institute of Contemporary Arts
The Mall, London SW1Y 5AH
As part of our season on sound, this exhibition presents one hundred new sound commissions produced by artists from all over the world. Selected by our curators and art institutions worldwide, the artists have been invited to submit a sound file, taking its stimulus from the themes evoked in Bruce Nauman’s Days, which will be presented in the lower gallery during the exhibition.
Soundworks embraces the ephemeral nature of sound, creating an online platform that doubles as a virtual exhibition space. The online presentation aims to make the works internationally accessible, a site to explore the genre as a medium which is simultaneously inclusive, interactive, and subversive. The exhibition includes a wide range of audible approaches by artists who have been working with the medium for many years, as well as artists taking their first venture into the sonic arts.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I'm sure they will all prove very useful.
EDIT: I've just had time to sit and sift through your various suggestions and have now filled my schedule for what is left of May and have accounted for a large chunk of my free time in June. The future looks musical
