1957, I was 13, the A-side was #1 pop, #1 R&B, #3 country. The B-side was the make-out song of the year.

Marc Ribot -- 'Bella Ciao Goodbye Beautiful' feat Tom Waits

"Bella ciao" ("Goodbye beautiful") is an Italian folk song that was adopted as an anthem of the anti-fascist resistance. It was used by the Italian partisans during the Italian Civil War between 1943 and 1945 in their struggle against the fascist Italian Social Republic and its Nazi German allies. "Bella ciao" is used worldwide as an anti-fascist hymn of freedom and resistance. The song has much older origins though in the hardships of the mondina women, the paddy field workers in the late 19th century who sang it as a protest against harsh working conditions in the paddy fields in North Italy. --Wikipedia

Got hooked into a best 75 one-hit wonders click-bait site. Spent a tidy sum on i-tunes as a result. First 15 or so were 50-70s, found a couple I'd missed that I wanted. Then it turned into a detailed, chronological itemization of 1-hit-wonders from the 80s, 90s, and early aughts, when I was raising kids and not keeping up as well as I do now, so it was perfect. Had most of the good ones, but found some I should have, some I never heard berfore and really dug, like these two:

Pretty sure this was the last mono top 3 hit, early 70s bare-bones R&B, sampled by Drake in Hotline Bling:
