Erstwhile sale

Post by jon abbey »

I'd like to announce a sale on all Erstwhile titles through the end of February, details as follows. this does not apply to other items we distribute, just the Erstwhile catalog, and only for direct purchases through me.

all single CDs are $10, doubles $17, plus my shipping estimate. buy any 5 releases, get an additional single CD free. the AMPLIFY 2002: balance box set (which is starting to run low) is still $100 plus shipping, but you also get two single discs of your choice included for free. sale ends last day of February and is only good for all-Erstwhile orders directly through me at ErstRecs@aol.com . no preorders will be accepted; this only applies to releases out now. please e-mail me your orders before sending money so I can tell you the correct shipping charges to include.

the full catalog is listed at the link below, 004 and 010 are OOP, and 012, 015 and EL004 are running low, everything else I've got...

http://www.erstwhilerecords.com/catalog.asp" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false;

thanks for your time and for your (hopeful) support! it's essential and deeply appreciated, now more than ever...

About time I finally got that Amplify box set. This seems like the perfect chance. Expect an order from me pretty soon Jon.

Has EL005 been reduced, or does it come with something similiar to the Amplify Box?

oh, good point, I forgot to include that, dammit.

EL005 is $28 plus shipping, and if you buy EL005 plus two other discs, you get one more free.

I read this title as Erstwhile Ale when I first got here.

I'm gonna use that if I ever homebrew again!

I'm down to 4 copies of Bart, if anyone's planning to grab that one (mr. hatta?).

make that down to at most 3 now that my order's arrived!

jon, thanks for canceling last week's order so I could do this one!

TONS of good stuff to digest. Frankly, I have no idea how I've not bought anything on erstwhile before, totally oblivious.

2 copies of Bart left actually, and I think 4 or 5 of the Dorner/Drumm. what's really moving is the box sets, though, very nice to see.

hope you dig that stuff, Anthony! plenty more to go after that, I've been working hard the last 6-7 years... :)

yep, no problem. if you want to be safe, you can send me a preorder for an estimate once you decide what you want, but it should be fine either way.

So I guess it's time for my anuual request for Erstwhile recommendations.

To make it a little easier, here's a list of the releases I already have, grouped by how I feel about them:

Favorites:
012 Thomas Lehn/Marcus Schmickler - Bart
019 Greg Kelley/Jason Lescalleet - Forlorn Green
023 Polwechsel/Fennesz - Wrapped Islands
031 Martin Siewert/Martin Brandlmayr - Too Beautiful to Burn

Enjoy well enough:
002 Haunted House - Up in Flames
021 MIMEO/John Tilbury - The Hands of Caravaggio

Couldn't really get into:
013 Toshimaru Nakamura/Sachiko M - do
027 Keith Rowe/Thomas Lehn/Marcus Schmickler - Rabbit Run
030-2 Keith Rowe/John Tilbury - Duos for Doris

...and that's all the Erst stuff I have. Hopefully that can give some basic idea of my taste.

The only one I have my eye on right now is 4g - Cloud, but I'd like to order 2-3 from the sale. I've found that my impression of the samples on the site can be pretty misleading so any advice you could give me on what I might like would be greatly appreciated.

I'd also appreciate any recommendations of Erstwhile Dist. or non-Erstwhile stuff along these lines.

Id recommend buying from this group next:

Burkhard Stangl / Christof Kurzmann - Schnee
Burkhard Stangl / Dieb13 - eh
Keith Rowe / Günter Müller / Taku Sugimoto The World Turned Upside Down
Tetuzi Akiyama / Günter Müller - Points and Slashes
Julien Ottavi / Dion Workman - misenlian

add to that:

Jérôme Noetinger/ErikM - What a Wonderful World
Andrea Neumann/Burkhard Beins - Lidingö
Christian Fennesz/Sachiko M/Otomo Yoshihide/Peter Rehberg

but most of all, continue listening to Duos for Doris. it's a great record, and more than worth the effort it demands. once you "get into it", you will get into lot of great stuff.
I was going to be a neo-deconstructivist but mom wouldn't let me.

Those three would be great choices, too. As would Keith Rowe & Burkhard Beins - ErstLive 001

well, the main thing I take out of your likes and dislikes is that you connect to the warmth of the Vienna crew. so I'd second the two Stangl recs John made, and add in schnee_live (ErstLive 003).

on the other hand, Bart and Forlorn Green are two of the roughest releases I've done, so I'm not quite sure what else to suggest.

"Roughest" in what way?
