most Psychedelic record?

After reading someone on another list talking about looking for the Motherlode
of psychedelic music as a sidepoint on a thread, I thought I'd ask what
individuals here thought the most psychedelic record they'd heard was.

I'm assuming that these will have changed with experience and that there are a
changing array of readers here, cos I think something similar was asked some
years back. Wouldn't think there was a fixed 'most psychedelic' anyway, since
I'd assume it was subjective within some kind of range.

I'm interested in those that fall outside of the more obvious too, since I think
I've probably got most of those having been buying in the area for years. So
don't limit to the more obvious time & place restrictions.

not sure what I'd go for myself & don't want to influence other contributions
overly.

Not sure if it's the most psychedelic, but I don't think I've ever heard a record that was more obviously the result of psychedelic drug use than the Holy Modal Rounders' "Indian War Whoop".

I take the question to be "what would be the best record to trip to?", whatever one's preferred means of tripping might be. that being said:

I like the ultralong component, maybe Eliane Radigue-Adnos I-III? along these same lines, I'd also nominate the Feldman second string quartet on Hat Art and EL005.

Sheer Hellish Miasma is also a great answer, that would be one of my choices for a single CD release. the first Funkadelic record, Ween-Pure Guava, Trout Mask Replica, Portishead-Dummy are also some I can vouch for from firsthand experience.

if I'm asked about a psychedelic record, I always go for this one because it's so all over the place. Terrible drug experiences on it as well. I don't really like the record even. Not sure if it fits into the psychedelica you had in mind for this thread.

The most psychedelic record i own is Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Hymnen", which I've enjoyed very much for more than thirty years. I am not the only one who thinks that it emits very strong lysergic emanations, since I once read that several people had asked the great man if he'd taken LSD while recording it. His answer was that no, he'd never taken the stuff, but he did spend quite some time in California in 65-66. You know, contact high.

But Pierre Boulez, ever the gentleman, claims that St. actually took brain-frying doses of psychedelics then.

I spent most of the week doing a very deep clean of my room, reorganizing stuff that I hadn't looked through for years - found a few ~goodies~ in the process... This thread is especially good in light of that!

I like this one cause the more I listen to it, the more musical it gets, while at first I heard it as just field recordings of his kids on outings; there's a lotta little details hiding in that mousse!

Used to love playing Mr Bungles 'disco volante' (again, xcpt 1st track) during comedown, but I may have played it out at this point.... Skinny puppy's 'last rights' was another favorite back in the day, fun to crawl aroung in the dark to with your friends, pretending you're all monsters... Oh the memories!

...ok, i can go on forever, i think most of the music discussed in IHM is trippy , but contrary to opinions here, i wouldn't recommend SHM or the praxis (above), as very risky material. and, thinking about it maybe the lachenmann could be quite risky too, depending on the people in the room.

Coltrane in various places
several bits of Fela Kuti
& Toumani Diabate
Television at their most hypnotic.
Caspar Brotzmann's 'Home' lp, something very psych inside the scorched grooves.
Savage Republic's Jamahiriya was very good as a tripping lp but not sure if it'd
rank that highly against some more extreme lps.
& of course Krautrock is littered with eye opening moments.

Think I'd view Funhouse as a much more psychedelic lp than the 1st Stooges lp, &
of the cornerstones of the Universe.
I find something pretty psychedelic in the excess of the Birthday Party in
places too.

the blunted hip hop scene e.g New Kingdom, wordsound, etc
lots of dub, Lee Perry & King Tuby especially

West african music seems very trippy possibly because of the tunings.
berber stuff too & pretty much any ethnic ritual trance musics
