Just an example of Good stuff at Spotify. (If anybody wonders about the sound quality - I use the Premium version so to get access to the 320 kbps ogg files)

Tell me what treasures you have found... or just a good selection of songs.

the limited availability of spotify makes this thread pretty hard to read. any chance you could copy the content you linked there into the thread so those of us who cannot access (or have not installed) spotify can see what you're referring to?

let's keep this thread in a musical direction.

Hi all,

Does anybody else here use spotify? It's pretty revolutionary it terms on how to listen to music.

I'd be interested to hear your opinions of the service too.

I've had the free version for about a year and a half and during this time I've only used it a handful of times. There are basically two situations where I've used it:1.) I'm not at home and want to play something to someone (say, an excerpt of a piece to my composition teacher) or 2.) A potentially interesting concert/gig is happening nearby soon, and I want to make an informed decision whether to go or not.

Listening to anything that is not compressed/limited/maximized all the way to 0dB is extremely irritating, though, since there are loud advertisements about every 20 minutes (only between track changes, luckily). The paid versions are not expensive, but it doesn't contain nearly enough of the music I want to listen to to make it worth it for me. For example, searching for Keith Rowe only finds the album Flypaper (with Oren Ambarchi) and the compilations Mottomo Otomo and Music out of Place...

But there is plenty of good stuff in there as well, including some surprises (like some pieces by young, not very well known contemporary classical composers). In the end I'm happy to have the free version for the two cases mentioned above... I'm slowly stopping buying music in physical formats altogether, so I'm definitely sympathetic for this kind of service...

I pay for the premium, the sound quality is pretty good.

And while it may be a little short on some EAI, it does have a very good selection of Jazz & Ethnic Music.

It's got enough to definitely occupy me for years.

Perhaps I am more interested to ask a question for musicians/record label owners that view the board.

Do you think Spotify is an effective way of distributing music? Would you prefer the exposure vs lower margin??

bump, there might be more users now that this service is available in several new countries.

Does anyone want to be my Spotify friend?
