Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

played today:

Image

Jessica Rylan - Interior Designs

I liked this. I think she's playing only with an analogue synthesizer. The sounds are not very different from tapes I had heard from hear, except the sound is cleaner. The problem I have is with the nature of certain sounds which are really... huh, "gastric" I'd say. So that made me smile at some moments and I had a good time.

Image

Dino Felipe - No Fun Demo

Excellent. I was very surprised because I thought these were going to be much more mbryonic and lo-fi, but there are some killer songs on there. I was also surprised how much he sounded like Prince sometimes. It's a record I'll come back to often I think. Also, watch out for his next album !

Jazzfinger - Slowed By The Grace Of Water

I'm in love with this band. I've been playing all the releases I've got non-stop. My favourite one for the moment is side A of Tour Of The Moors, which I mentioned yesterday here. If there are clips or recordings of their performance at No Fun, as I've seen for other acts, I'd really like to see them (probably should post at Troniks about that too) Still, an excellent band.

and now playing is:

Thomas Mapfumo & The Blacks Unlimited, The Chimurenga Singles 1976-1980.

Mal Waldron (piano), Reggie Workman (bass) & Billy Higgins (drums), Up Popped the Devil (1973).

Dark, simple and memorable left-hand piano riffs pounded out with Workman thickening out the lower end. The gloomy "Space Walk" with Carla Poole joining on the flute is a highlight.

Right now, playing Was (Not Was) self titled lp. Great stuff.

Just before listened to new Pimmon album, 'Smudge Another Yesterday'. I'm admittedly a fanboy, but this was seriously fantastic. Easily the best thing he's done in about 7 years.
