2009 edition of this thread. As always this thread is to notify people of shows coming up, i.e. not reviews, not shows attended, etc. If you are putting on, playing, or otherwise involved then I Hate Promotions is the place for you.

This Saturday Genesis P and Tony Conrad are apparently playing together at Issue Project Room. I doubt I'll enjoy it but I'm sort of really really tempted to go anyway.

Other much more promising music news:

The Stone
1/22 Thursday
8 pm
Duo: Gregory Reynolds (alto sax) Gust Burns (inside piano)
Quartet: Gust Burns (piano) Nate Wooley (trumpet) Reuben Radding (bass) Andrew Drury (drums)

1/23 Friday (GG)
8 pm
Quartet: Gust Burns (piano) John Mclellan (drums) Andrew Lafkas (bass) Jack Wright (saxophones)

then Gust (with at least Gregory I think?) go on to Baltimore and Philly over the weekend though I don't have specifics about that for the board....

edit: and Jon. You forgot to note the 8pm set of that and/OAR slash m/OAR showcase: solos by Billy Gomberg, Sawako, and John Hudak. I'm still (unsuccessfullly and without much hope) working on convincing Billy to let me help him freak people out with an Other Vultures set instead of the mild mannered laptop solo he's expected to play.....

all I did was list the shows I'm aware of over the next few months here that I'll be likely to attend.

January 30 (Fri.) Gene Coleman ensemble with Toshimaru Nakamura, Ryuko Mizutani, Marina Peterson, Magda Mayas, and others at 15th Street Meeting House, New York, U.S.A.
January 29th and 31st Gene Coleman and company (yes that includes Namamura) will be playing in Philadelphia as part of the month long Nexus Radio series (http://www.nexusphiladelphia.org/nexusradio.html). Sadly I must report that Ryuko Mizutani has recently passed away. I'm not sure if she will be replaces in this group or not but her presence will be missed. Her and Gene have had a long running collaboration together.

Check the Nexus Radio Google calendar (linked on the site) and you'll see Sound Field bookmarked for that 29th (strangely not the 31st yet). If you want more details you can go to www.soundfield.org or keep you're eye on www.bowerbird.org (I'm pretty sure he'll have it updated in the next week with info on that show).

I just got word from Gene Coleman that the 31st is not happening anymore. So if you wants to see Nakamura on the East Coast, check out Nexus Gallery on the 29th and NYC on the 30th.

Dunno about Karman and Adams, but JP is always worth seeing. Being Thursday in Portland, I probably can't make it down, but for those in town: go.

So this year's SIMF Schedule has been posted, looking great again, with Greg Kelley, Kai Fagaschinski, lê Quan Ninh plus a bunch of East Coast-ers and PNW-ers. There does seem to be a bit more "large group" then normal, which in general I'm not so high on. But I suppose it's possible those are following some sort of loose structuring system that could help with that. We shall see.

As always there is a benefit featuring a bunch of locals doing "one minute solos" which I am once again taking part in. This is of course much more about raising funds then the music, so I wouldn't hold it to those standards. So if you can come and donate!

Not much info yet, but Olivia Block is coming back to Toronto and Montreal in April, and apparently Seattle in May. I don't know who's organizing the Toronto show, but my guess would be Yatra Arts.

I thought I read about a Marianne Amacher appearance/sound installation in Los Angeles this year, but now can't find any word on it. Can anyone confirm this?
