Madeleine L'Engle - Many Waters
This is you know the fourth in a series of books right? The first being A Wrinkle in Time, the second A Wind in the Door and the third A Swiftly Tilting Planet. These three she wrote ages ago in the 60s and 70s and then she revisited these characters in the late 80s and wrote Many Waters and An Acceptable Time . IMO those first three books are amongst the very best children's books and were definitely very formative reads for me. Books I've reread many times even into my adulthood. But the later two are just not as good and even corrupt some of the characters unnecessarily. They are a bit strong on the christianity as well whereas in the first books it was much more a good v. evil type of thing where all earthly beliefs systems were considered on the good side. So YMMV of course but if you haven't read those first three definitely do so.

Also its worth noting that she crossed over characters from all of her books and she had a vast interlocking universe. I never read beyond the Time Quintet myself but my sister loved all of her books. Her Wikipedia page goes through it quite thoroughly.
A Wrinkle in Time was the first novel I ever read. I still love it dearly. But I agree that the others in the series are lesser books. Between the perfection of the characters ( their flaws were their strengths ) and the Christianity ( C S Lewis is an obvious model ) they just don't work for me. I was disappointed..

one wonders how there wouldnt be enormous difference, 800 motherfuckers cost thrice as much as 685.

anyway these are my first decent (more or less) speakers.

yeah there were some ProAcs but i didnt bother to check. and everyone was going crazy about AE1 (god aint that hifi game a dirtygame :) )

and as Richard kindly pointed out two speakers is a must for any audiophile wannabe.

I know, I know.... But in my defense, I didn't notice he had a tiny table of stuff set up until really late......

Took a little road trip to Seattle this weekend and got some really good stuff at a place called Bop Street Records in Ballard.
Image
Robert Ashley - Private Parts
John Cale - Vintage Violence
Stravinsky Conducts Stravinsky - Oedipus Rex
Cecil Taylor - Silent Tongues (I really like this one upon my first listen, but I'm not as familiar with Taylor's catalogue as I'd like to be: can any Taylor freaks tell me how this compares to other solo piano records he's put out?)
The The - Infected
and:
George Crumb - Makrokosmos I (this one is particularly good... the melodic fragments, low rumbles, and pianist's vocalization create a really wonderful-but-slightly-terrifying-at-times atmosphere)
Charles Ives - String Quartets 1 & 2
Iannis Xenakis - Electroacoustic Music
(all on Nonesuch - I had no idea that label used to put out such good stuff... I even passed on a decent looking Schoenberg they had put out)
