The thing is, it sounds so familiar and for lack of a better term "old school", maybe even EFI. I can't really put my finger on it, but it reminds me of my early ventures in improv.

I checked out only the two samples given at Erstdisc... the guitar playing in Looking West reminds me of Hans Reichel... at least in terms of "tone production" if a term like that exists in english; sounds like tapping and then immediately releasing so the string keeps sounding after the tapped attack. Plus the tuning sounds, well, beyond the equal-tempered 12-tone system.
Not familiar with other stuff by the guitarist, so putting him into a post-Hans Reichel-context based on 2 minutes might be inaccurate.

Musica Improvvisa (Die Schachtel, 2010)



A 10 CD box is always hard to take in and digest. Especially when most of the artists involved are not that well known. Take for instance disc 10 "territori" by improv / post rock kind of group Ligatura. No other disc of this band can be found on google, yet this one is powerful music along the lines of Trapist at their most introspective.

Some better known artists and combinations (Andrea Belfi, Attila Faravelli, etc.) cover a wide and very contemporary territory.
Awesome recording quality, and the box is a bonus too. Worth checking it out.

- a bit out of the blue, only checked a few tracks on Youtube before ordering... but I have the impression I won't regret that in terms of the music itself. I'm actually quite excited. But what I might regret is going for all those 7'-vinyl items instead of just taking the two CDs compiling exactly that material (plus a few extras I understand).

The excerpt sounds great. Trying to find a UK source for it, as the shipping is kind of mad otherwise. A worse man might find himself rooting for some more mad Trump announcements, to screw the dollar long enough to make it affordable.

i enjoy both the above very much, especially the species pluralis usb ... it's tightly structured between straight and heavily treated recordings of predetermined length (and not at all a file dump as the medium might lead to suspect).
