I didn't realize Zorn was verboten around here. If Y'all see that I'm listening to him, it's just because I'm curious or trying to refresh my memory. I got bored or overwhelmed by all his output early on, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of it. I'm glad I didn't fall into the black hole of buying tons of his music before suddenly realizing that I didn't really like it.

First disk played on my new (gently used) pair of KEF Q30s speakers



Wanted to check the high highs and low lows, and the piano also gives you a good idea of the warmth of acoustic instruments. Also the spacing between notes allows you to hear if there's any ancilliary buzzing or humming.

Pretty satisfied. The bottom end isnt superb, but satisfactory. Might add one of those small compact subwoofers with the integrated amp to give it a better floor. I bet I could find one for under $100.

If I listen to him, it's because I was very much into collecting (mostly inofficial) recordings of what he did until circa '85 - I still find that to be an amazingly spiky sub-chapter in improvised music. And he can be an absolutely amazing horn player... okay... which unfortunately shows in not more that about 30% of his projects - to my ears.

I think I lost track somewhere in the late '80s, but I heard snippets of releases along the way. Some one loaned me a stack of Masada recently and I only listened to a few. Didn't really work for me.

PS: I'm not looking for any lively conversation, someone else brought him up and he was shot down big time.

I should listen to some Björk, it's been a while.
