Just came back from a Gordon Monahan, Olivia Block and Joda Clement triple bill.
Olivia Block by far made had clearest effect on me.
I know I have some of her Sedimental releases [though I don't know where they are at the moment]
I need to hear more.

What is your personal favourite Olivia Block release or collaboration?

i've only heard of mobius fuse.
i would say that's an upper-mediocre record. in other words, not so bad..

they are all good but i would say "change ringing" on cut is one of her best.

Agreed. Excellent, excellent stuff.

I believe Pure Gaze, Mobius Fuse, and Change Ringing are in a sort of trilogy of works. Her latest, Heave To (2006) strays somewhat in sound from these. It's very dense, but also good. I think I enjoy Change Ringing more though.

I guess this is a good place to ask: Has anyone seen/heard the collaboration DVD with Luis Recorder, Sandra Gibson, and Olivia Block released on SoSEditions? I haven't seen any word about it, other than that it is apparently now available.

yeah, these are the three I'd recommend, in that order (you probably have the first two already, guessing from your first post).

Olivia told me last night the DVD is out....to my great shock as I assumed SOS were more or less quiet for the longest time.....

I have to recommend Heave To, even though its the only one I've heard. I really love it, very nautical and dense, but not overwhelmingly loud. I definitely need to pick up some more. One of the better CDs that was new to me last year.

I like all the stuff from her that I've heard, but I would start with Pure Gaze.

Yes, Heave to is her best for me. I don't like so much the rest.

Heave To is the only disc of her's that I am not familiar with. I am curious as to what it is about this release that you enjoy more than the others..?

That said, I really enjoy the trilogy of Pure Gaze, Mobius Fuse, and Change Ringing. I've had lovely experiences with each of those three discs this week. I listened to Mobius Fuse on 'Canada Day' with my window open, which mixed perfectly with the celebratory fireworks all around the city. Change Ringing is possibly my favourite, but they're all equally as enjoyable.

I liked Heave To a lot as well. I'd have to go back and listen to the others again to try and pick a favourite from her releases, but they are all a good listen if you ask me.

There's a couple of tracks I like not mentioned here yet on one of the twin 2CDr sets on the 23five label that present the live performances from the Tenth Annual Activating the Medium Festival in 2007. Some nice field recording based work involving a lot of fireworks going off. Not original I know, but I'm a sucker for the sounds of fireworks going off.

It wasn't my favourite performance from that fest by any means, but it might of interest here.

As all these "Best of 2012"-Lists are posted everywhere it occurred to me: wasn't there a new Olivia Block album to be released this year (which was originally slated for 2011)? Anybody know what's happening with this? Can't find anything about it on her website. I recall when Rob Forman of Sedimental Records was a guest on the Rare Frequency radio show quite some time ago, he played some of the material and that sounded very good.

Weird coincidence - I listened to Resolution last night - never fails - amazingly wild and dynamic record - always blown away with how it is possible to generate many of the sounds they produce.
