Crystal Castles and other electronic

I recently stumbled upon the Crystal Castles and enjoyed it right away (which is rare for me).

Has anyone else heard their stuff? If so, what do you think?

Never heard of the band, just checked it out on myspace and thought it was irritating crap.

Though their wikipedia entry is the funnies thing I've read in a while:
wikipedia wrote:Crystal Castles is a Toronto-based band, described by Loud & Quiet as "the most exciting and original band in the world right now" consisting of multi-instrumentalist Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass. The group's music has been described as "innovative".

I can't make up my mind whether it's a lapse in taste or a clever troll...

Or maybe a not so clever troll...dunno..

Probably a band member fishing for compliments. It's hard to judge a lapse in taste from someone who doesn't have a posting history.

it's clearly a shill, and a pretty naive one at that.

I wasn't being a troll, just trying to share an interest. Is this the standard hazing of a newbie? :?

Maybe I'm just a sucker for atari and 8-bit sounds... Beige Records stuff.

Ah, well.

from their myspace

influences: blank looks on girls

undoubtedly

this sounds like it wants to be a disco track but needs to keep a steady grasp on the silly hipsters who listen to it

yeah i seem to have fell by the wayside when it comes to 'hip' new music

like people talking about klaxons, crystal castles, sally shapiro, etc. that from what i understand is in the electro/dance tradition

i have never heard any of this stuff but a lot of people seem to talk about it on message boards

I was going to go see them with HEALTH today but they canceled. They're obviously a gigantic hipster thing and they have a lot of boring songs but they have this one really nice song too. I dunno.

wow.
so is having a pole up your ass a pre-requisite for being a member here or is that just some strange coincidence?
guess I missed the memo.

I like what I've heard from Crystal Castles
haven't heard the LP yet, but Alice Practice was good
they are totally overhyped, yeah, but oh well, it happens
not the greatest band in the world or anything but enjoyable

and thanks for the Yellow Magic Orchestra recommendation
I'll have to check that out

i dunno about the ass to pole ratio, but generalizing about the board is a shortcut to having your posts deleted. just so you know.

this thread could certainly have gone better, though.

heh...

I need to grow a thicker skin anyway. :)

I think I have a lot more reading to do on this site before I post so quickly!

so criticizing people for being snooty is illegal now?

seems kind of silly to me
I wasn't making generalizations
I was referring to a few specific posts

anyway, let's not derail the thread

uh. really? you should maybe refer to a few specific posts when you mean to refer to a few specific posts.

this thread is a complete nonstarter, since the original poster never got around to making it clear what he was talking about, and the only people who were familiar with the topic had negative opinions of it. derailing it at this point is pretty much besides the point, but if you felt like railing it for a start, i wouldn't have to be so annoyed.
