Endonesia, As The World Turns Slow, Hard Times, June 27th, Southside Riders, and Weed and Hennessy are all prime Screw.

up, not that that's much.

let's use this thread to talk about Screw and anyone else from the Houston scene, and maybe we can explain to any doubters why he's currently watching over us.

as the initial post says, it's insane how much material of his is out there, especially considering he died at 30. I have 130 hours of his stuff in my iPod, dozens more not in there yet, and I might not have half of what he did.

I started this thread on JC a couple of years ago during the early part of my ongoing obsession, plenty of good links and info there amidst the typical silliness:

GOOD CALL.

was just listening to some slooow jams through my PA the other night. stuff sounds so good loud. really recommend just cranking to anyone who hasn't. all the little intricacies (both of vocal and musical) really jump out.

some words of wisdom from the late lamented db here ('late' as a IHM contributor, not in real life):

the swishahouse has blown all the way up by now, i guess everybody should know that shit by now. but seriously good info over there.

sunday nights in town, both hiphop stations do an hour or two of freestyle screw. it's the best radio in town, even if most of the actual music is kinda forgettable. i mean, they're really just fucking around, but sometimes they hit it just dead on.

mike watts does one of those shows, or at least leads it. i dunno who does the other.

i want to buy every single screw tape made in cassette format. id have to give you the cash in advance, thats a hefty chunk of change and alot of tapes for you to buy.

you guys forgot 3 in the mornin part 2. I like purple potion a lot and most of the ones mentioned. I'd say the best one as far as doing something totally off the walls is june 27th. I mean a 37 minute hip hop song.

one of my favorite tracks on a screw tape is the s/c version of fat pats - tops drop. Thats the song that comes to mind when i think of houston hip hop. Normal version too. They both rule.

yeah, no. you'd probably also have to arrange for an armed guard and a wheelbarrow.

IMO, no one's done it as well as the original man himself, but the current main practicioners are probably Mike Watts/Swishahouse and OG Ron C.
