Q-O2 CD book | Now available from Compost and Height

Q-O2 / 2009 / cd-book release

Now Available

£13 / €15

Postage: Belgium €2 | International €6

The project /2009/ started on 4th of January 2009 and ended on 13th December 2009. It was a succession of sound recordings made over the course of one year by ten artists who had each four weeks to respond to the recording of an unknown predecessor. They received no other information than the recording itself. Each recording is 7 minutes long and is accompanied by two pages in a diary. Recordings, diary and reflections are brought together in a listen book.

The aim was to investigate how we perceive music, in a more precise way than ‘I liked it’ or ‘it spoke to me' and whether it is in any way possible to ‘understand’ experimental music. The proposition of the research-part of the project was that misunderstanding could lead to creative interaction, presupposing that there is an active and open listening.

Artists involved: Julia Eckhardt Chiyoko Szlavnics Manfred Werder Aernoudt Jacobs Anne Wellmer Manu Holterbach Annette Krebs Tim Parkinson Olivier Toulemonde Mieke Lambrigts

Their contributions provide in their wide diversity a reflection of the experimental music field, which seems to be very much in flux at the beginning of this century.

The book will be released by Compost and Height.

All orders will be taken through paypal, for more information please contact compostandheight@gmail.com

Listen to the samples! No other Ferrari on record sounds like this... until I read the description I was suspecting an mp3 mix-up or something.

stoked to get this release going as soon as the submission came in the door - well well well - explicitly described as minimalist splatter anti dance music - this thing is recorded so well its not even funny - one complex synth patch comes in and out of the stereo channels and these super weird drum patterns evolve over the course of the tape - the print i made is just the beginning - its a five color 18x24 poster, and we will have some zukerman in the mix too - ladies - still figuring out how to assemble it all, but word is there are some warehouse finds of original cmyk screenprints by michael veet, sekitani and more being considered for this package - more as it develops!

^^^
Was just about to post that myself, got mine today, it's an expensive edition but really good work, the Concert-Installation disc was an immediate hit, especially the Beins and Dorner pieces, the second disc was a lot more complex than I was expecting, the computer must be running quite some patch I think. Impressive stuff.

Nella Basillica is a grower, some amazing bass tones felt on that one. Of the recent releases I have heard with Hayward present, this might be my favorite.

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

People recording things in very old Italian churches using low bass tones always brings to mind the brilliant closing scene in Gaddis' The Recognitions.

"Prego ... capisce" : "Please, pay attention, don't use too much bass, and low notes. The church is so old that the vibrations, you see, could be very dangerous. Please, no bass . . . and no strange combinations of notes, you understand."

The Recognitions was big mojo for me in my college days. I essentially read anyone described as *Joycean* in my misspent youth.

One of the greatest closing passages I've ever read. Looked for it online, but couldnt find it anywhere, just the English translation of what the old priest says to Stanley. alas.
