OOPs.

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

They should reissue it with Bailey's suggested tagline,

Karyobin: Whitey Free Jazz

More of Tony Oxley's music should be in print: Ichnos (RCA) especially, but also The Baptised Traveller and Four Compositions for Sextet (both CBS). The latter two were reissued on CD about ten or fifteen years ago, but I'm sure they're unavailable again. That's what you get for issuing music on major labels who couldn't give a fuck about your music.

Spontaneous Music Ensemble - Oliv
(read about it nearly 20 years ago, and since then never had a chance to listen to a single note of it).

Out of the historical free jazz stuff from Europe, that's probably the one I'd be most interested in!

Reissue this!

Hmm, that came out on Polydor in 1969. Not heard it either. Short piece about it here (makes it sound a bit dodgy, acutally, "A strange mix of minimalism and freak-folk"!):

Back in olden days I had a lp featuring Marion Brown and pianist Elliot Schwartz. I've never seen this on disc and would like to re-visit it.

There is hope that more FMP music will be released outside Atavistic's Unheard Music Series. The German jazzwerkstatt label started to reissue FMP stuff last year, but up to now those have been recordings previously available on CD. In a few weeks there will be a rerelease of two FMP LPs as a 2-CD set (Ulrich Gumpert Workshop Band).

There's a lot of stuff on FMP that begs for re-release. Not so much the free jazz stuff, but things like the Malfatti Wittwer stuff or Hans Reichels first release, the Kowald-Guy duo..

In fact, I have this very moment, the LP jacket of The Kowald/Guy thing ( Paintings it's called..) and there's a bunch of stuff listed that I always wanted to hear.

You know, not to sound discouraging or anything...I really don't think those Gayle discs are worth reissuing...

A good chunk of that duo was reisued on the (fucking great) Kowald & Co. Bass Duets CD (FMP CD102). About 25 minutes of it is given over to the Paintings LP, but it'd be good to have it reissued as it was. Duos with Barre Phillips and Maarten Altena make that CD a real knockout, though.

Waiting for Giorgio 14?02 unissued

Waiting for Giorgio 22?50
Oliv I (Stevens/Nicols) 19?33
Marmalade 608008/Polydor 2384 009 (lp)
all out except Watts, Dyani, Stevens, Nicols
Oliv II (Stevens/Nicols) 16?02
Marmalade 608008/Polydor 2384 009 (lp)
7.5ips mono copy of Waiting for Giorgio (short take) + Oliv II: C577/111, 7.5ips st. copy of Waiting for Giorgio (long take): C577/112. The two (very different) versions of Waiting for Giorgio were recorded by the ensemble whilst waiting for producer Giorgio Gomelsky to arrive at the studio but they are partly composed. The tapes held at the NSA suffer from distortion in places but the masters may be unaffected. PolyGram may have one or more unissued takes of Oliv as the issued Oliv II was actually the third take of this piece. Brief notes by John Stevens, Giorgio Gomelsky and Eddie Offord. Reviewed in Jazz Monthly 09/69, by Graham Boatfield in Jazz Journal (8/70) p32, by Richard Williams (briefly) in MM 27/6/70 p26 & MM 2/8/69 p18. Jak Kilby took photographs at this session.

Definitely one I'd like to hear, though it doesn't sound like free-folk to me (even if it did that would be reason enough to reissue it, given the interest in free folk today).. I'm a huge fan of the SME + vocalist line ups, whether we're talking Maggie Nicols or Julie Tippetts.

Do you actually have all these Takayanagis, Julian, or is this just a want list? (If you do own them, we should talk again!)

So Sleeping Beauty sold out? I'm amazed..

Afflicted Man's Musica Box, United Dairies UD12 (UK) is one I'd like to see back out. (No, I've never heard it all, but have the AMM track on a cassette.) Apparently Steve Stapleton still has copies of the original vinyl, but without covers.

I don't have those Takayanagi's Dan, calm down ;-)
However, something tells me You've got the Taku Sugimoto disc somewhere... Wanna trade ;-)

What's wrong with those Gayle discs ? Be more precise please:

1. you got them and dont like them as compared to other gayle records
2. you think they're not worth re-issueing because they wouldn't sell at all
3. you simply don't like Gayle ?

I don't think PSF stuff goes out of print, Forced Exposure lists both of those FWIW.
