The 3 Phasis & Eel Pot records were a great period for Cecil's ensemble colors; violinist Ameen is involved as an educator in schools out east; trumpeter Raphe Malik died in 2006 [RIP], after taking a teaching gig at Bennington and playing with contemporary luminaries Sabir Mateen and William Parker. They are also heard to great effect on One Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye.

Cecil is a force of nature on this one. It's following this Berlin residency that I stopped buying his stuff, with 1-2 exceptions. Saw him in 2000, with the lamentable rhythm accompaniment of Jackson Krall and Dominic Duval. Oxley was the great ballast for Taylor.

Is interesting how he has evolved or changed from that to the typewriting sound palette of his later music (Erstlive 006, the Manual cd with Noid; I haven't listen the two records with Malfatti). Does anybody knows if he still uses the speakers with objects set-up, or if he combines it with the "typewriter" set-up?
I like the way he display the sounds. The ideas about sound placement realized in Malignitat are here too.

Further recordings of La Lontananza Nostalgica Utopica Futura. Arditti, Merkel, Kremer, and Mellinger.
I saw the piece live on Sunday. It was spectacular. Very different experience seeing it live. A little short (closer to the Kremer recording) at just over 35 minutes. Very different from the Arditti recording. Had more in common with both the Mellinger and the Merkel. Despite its shorter length, quite a significant amount of silence found its way into the performance.
Also been listening to Michael Finnissy's English Country Tunes, performed by the composer.
