Explain.. :)
Well Jove is of course Jupiter and Richard is clearly an adherent to the ancient Roman faith of course.

I need to get that Ullman, loved A Catalog of Sounds.

Heh..

Jesse,

When you get into Sun Ra, there's just no stopping you!! :o
Happily, my first live Sonny date was 1982 and I revisit his stuff periodically when nothing else will do.
About 10 years ago I sold several hundred free jazz/improv records to a local collector, and there were numerous Saturns among them.

"By Jove!" is the kind of exclamation Bertie Wooster would make if Jeeves had left the Earl Grey to brew for a little too long Doug... ;)

I feel your pain...I picked up a few nameless, plain white covered Saturn's at a few Arkestra gig's....They all wound up being traded at the Chicago Jazz Record mart..

My stupidity knows no bounds..

The "Jove" thing I get...

It's all the great music out there that demanded my attention.

Steve Reich
Holland Festival, 1979

Conductors - Reinbert De Leeuw & Steve Reich
Narrator - Paul Holmes

Program:
A-Music For Pieces of Wood intro
B-Music For Pieces of Wood (Tuned Cowbell Version)
C-Violin Phase for Violin & 3 Sound Tracks Intro
D-Violin Phase for Violin & 3 Sound Tracks
E-Music For Mallet Instruments, Voices & Organ Intro
F-Music For Mallet Instruments, Voices & Organ
G-Music For A Large Ensemble Intro
H-Music For A Large Ensemble

---
This a recording of this festival off of Radio Nederland which I downloaded the other day. Really great sound quality and represents about the upper bound of the period of Reich compositions that I really like. The accompanying text file didn't say who is playing but I assume it is a local ensemble, maybe bolstered by the Reich Ensemble. Real nice versions of these pieces.

Thelonious Monk - It's Monk's Time

Monk's version of 'Memories of You' is a total killer... I had forgotten I owned this, but there're some really great tracks on this album.

Now having got through this I have to refine my position. The two longest pieces here, Music For Mallet Instruments, Voices & Organ and Music For A Large Ensemble I couldn't make it all they way through. They are indicative of what an increasing amount of Reich music would become like from this period on. The vocal parts are particularly grating, but the bright, tonal sounds also are just relentless as well. I did enjoy the first two pieces a lot though.

Yeah, that's why I leave it in the player for a long while each time I'm up to the task. Totally worth the effort. I guess there will be a third collab coming out sometime soon.

Matthew Sansom / Rhodri Davies duo cdr 'Live Uncut Vol.1'.

Very nice music indeed; an excellent balance of the ethereal and the gritty. Not a great cover, but who cares about that? Except that there is a complete lack of information, so that I'm not even sure what label it's on. Is is 'absurd'? Anyway the music is really good and well worth hunting down.

Yes its part of Absurd's "A Question of Re-entry" sub-series. Agreed about both the music and the packaging.
