Is anyone here into La Monte Young and Just Intonation? LMY is playing with his 'Just Alap Raga Ensemble' at the Guggenheim in a few weeks. I don't know much of the details, but RSVPing is necessary- there are more details on their site... www.melafoundation.org
I think Charles Curtis is playing the cello- because he did the last time the group played... but I'm not sure.

Does anyone who caught Olivia Block in Manhattan the other week have anything to say about it? I'm upset I missed that one.

so those three pieces are all for solo guitar and are being performed by Seth Josel? sorry, it's not that clear.

After some upheaval over at WBAI the original tapes of the John Cage / Morton Feldman: Radio Happenings were given to Brooklyn College (they were just going to throw them out!). We stored the reels in our temperature controlled computer music studio machine room (also housing the old PDP-11 and our SUN 3160 workstation, drives & tapes).

While I was an undergraduate at the Conservatory at Brooklyn College, we copied these tapes to PCM format (those old outboard machines w/o a tape transport that you hooked to a VCR or BETAMAX, in the days before DAT was common). I also made cassette copies of these PCM tapes and listened to them often. It is on these tapes that the story of Feldman's lost piece for Christian Wolff The Possibility of a New Work for Electric Guitar is told (Christian's guitar was stolen, the manuscript, and only copy, was in the case)

I have spent 20 years imagining (sometimes with guitar in hand) what that piece would have sounded like.

I would give just about anything in the world to hear this NY premier.

As a guitarist, I've always imagined myself performing the piece. I was just informed by the guitarist Seth Josel that Edition Peters will be publishing a score in the near future and Mode will be releasing a recording; both appearing some time next year!

Thats great news. I've been working out some of Cage's piano pieces for guitar (or multiple guitars overdubbed) and i've been thinking of trying some Feldman as well. Now an honest to god guitar piece from him - way cool.
