I'd love to hear a recording (if any exists) of Michael Colligan, KD and Zerang. Saw that at Zerang's place a couple years ago and it was awesome.

i think this is one of drumm's worst releases ever. can't understand why he agreed to make this CD while at the same time he rejects many interesting projects. nevermind, i love him anyway.

but the out trios series on atavistic is really not my thing. monsoon (ranaldo et al) was awful, too.

atavistic is a very inconsistent label. i do agree that there is some crap on that disc, but it was only 3 bucks, so i didn't waste much on it. i still need me some land of lurches.

kevin is one of the more powerful and consistent artists i've ever heard. this said, i must add that his absolute greatness is not only discernible on recording tho they form the basis of his (sadly rare) statement. i witnessed him dj'ing freeform noise+crude black metal set at a very stupid cafe and it was just as perfect as anything you can hear on,say, SHM.

i honestly hope he can be talked into doing something every now and then, and not give up making music. this would be a real loss.

on the brighter note, has anybody heard this unreleased cdr with thomas ankersmit? when and where did the show take place? any hints?

it wasn't unreleased, it was a really small edition, for a japanese tour, I believe. I have a copy, I didn't think it was especially exciting on one listen, I believe it's Thomas using source sounds of Kevin, who wasn't exactly involved directly. I can give it to Nirav to SLSK sometime.

when Thomas was in NY for a couple of years studying, he set up some very cool shows in a classroom, Kevin, TV Pow, Borbetomagus, Voice Crack, O'Rourke are the ones I recall.

the TV Pow set was the most entertaining laptop set I've ever seen (apologies if I already told this story at some point here), three mild-mannered young men with laptops, with a backing film they brought of another concert of theirs, where they're also all basically just staring at the screens, no sound from the film.

that's pretty funny in and of itself, but as the set progressed, the video Pow-sters gradually get more and more agitated, eventually progressing to the point where they're breaking their own equipment, snapping a laptop over a knee, just going crazy. meanwhile, the live version is still calmly staring at their screens, playing their mellow set, great stuff. the Ween of "eai"?

thanks for responses, definitely illuminating tv pow yarn makes me rethink my own exhaustion with laptopping to empty rooms...btw i wonder how do you find recent double tv pow remixes album 'powerful friends'....i think it's all nice and well and more than a bit overwhelming because of its sheer volume...many good moments but some tracks do nothing to sustain my interest, i recall liking contributions by ernst karel and old fave marc behrens, among others obviously. in all, good package! could be tad shorter, but i may be wrong.

i'm stupid and it's really late here and now. i have ankersmit/drumm collab from slsk but didn't give it a thorough listen yet, at least not as much as BOTH of them definitely deserve. i remember friend telling me that there's only one track by kevin, and the rest (2-3?) is anskermit's.
i didn't have a clue on its origin tho so thanks for telling me.

this is not a ankersmit/drumm collaboration.... ankersmit used a sample (or samples) from the s/t guitar cd and made a track.

So happy to know he is back in the game. Maybe he will say yes to everything and splooge Dark Arts all over the landscape before retiring again. Did he ever go back to working at the stock exchange or whatever job he was doing in 90s? In some interview he mentioned that his day job placed him in double-binds all the time and that that was useful to him as an improvisor...kinda cool. Cannot remember source of this quote, and don't know if the stock-related thing was what he was mentioning, if in fact I have that factoid straight at all.

that looks like the same mac powerbook he's had forever. i think the logo's just covered up by that sticker. i don't think he'll be saying yes to everything just yet. my understanding is he had a friend going to yipsi or ann arbor to visit family so he just hitched a ride to hang with the wolf dudes & play the show.

How is Frozen by Blizzard Winds, the Drumm / Lasse Marhaug disc on Smalltown Supersound?

I've been listening to SHM a lot and just picked up Land of Lurches. If Blizzard Winds is as good I'll have to grab a copy soon.
