I think this is much better than the last Gorguts, which was pretty much a paint-by-nummers affair.

Also, it's a brilliant bandname.

Been listening a lot to Cruciamentum's EP. Looking forward to their full lenght.

Also eagerly awaiting the Absu 'Tara' 4 vinyl box set reissue on The Crypt to arrive at my doorstep. One of my all time favorite albums.

I really liked the Gorguts. And the artificial brain is killer.

Wrest is an awful painter. I'm not sure why people hire him for covers. Or for anything really. Not a fan.

I've been playing a lot of Venus Star from Finland lately -- dirge-y black metal, not unlike Ride For Revenge when they get into one of their mid-paced grooves.

Listened to the Artificial Brain record. Dig it for sure. Not close to being better than Colored Sands, though, in my opinion; songwriting on that one is more sophisticated. I also find the AB vocals are bit low in the mix for my liking. But really solid overall.

The newest Teitanblood, simply entitled Death, is what I wanted from them -- raw savagery and mayhem in mostly long songs that really keep you interested. Guitar tones are brittle and the pace is mostly frenetic. Not as cavernous as I expected, but it works for me.

I also highly recommend Irkallian Oracle's Grave Ekstasis; I have to relisten to that one a few times before I can wrap my head around it though.

If you like some technical, polished but awesome grind, Gridlink's swansong, Longhena, is just about perfect. Couldn't've asked for a more fitting exit.

One more recommendation, from last year though: was Bölzer's Aura discussed here? What a great little slab of swinging black metal by this duo -- they really fill up the sound space with just guitar, drums, and vocals.

2014 is shaping up to be pretty great for heavy music imho...

Did you get a dl of the Teitanblood or were copies available before today? Anyway, I've been waiting (like many others apparently) for the new one. One of my favorite albums of the 00s (from any genre) was Seven Chalices. So my expectations are high. . .

I haven't been listening to much new stuff, mostly just Moonblood, Hate Forest (yes, I know), Ildjarn and a variety of primitive death metal bands. And of course a lot of Finnish weirdo black metal bands -- Womb C, Ride for Revenge, Venus Star, Saturnian Mist, Aura Saturnal, etc. . .

Some people got physical copies the same day but I just snagged a dl. Worth a buy though and will get around to that. Seven Chalices is a classic for sure.

any DM recommendations always welcome. Been listening to Immortal's Blizzard Beasts a lot. Very powerful. Maybe their most overlooked album.

Ildjarn has gotten some play here as well, as well as Dismember's Like An Everflowing Stream.

yes, it's pretty much a death metal album. Don't really care for anything Immortal did after it.

I'm heavily spinning this nice doom album from the past. I love the almost weightless Paul Chain's singing and the songwriting is simply beautiful. Also Lee Dorian's contribution is excellent.
