On one hand this disabuses me of the idea that an Action Bronson/Riff Raff collab will be as worthwhile as "Bird on a Wire", and on the other hand Beautiful Lou with a rapper who can really rip these slow beats over the course of a whole album would be a beautiful thing.

Also, Gucci Mane's put out some surprisingly strong stuff lately, despite all the drama.

Sooooo good. "Damn son, where'd you find this?" indeed, feeling like this set is up there as one of the weirdest this year could offer.. of any area of music, really. Maybe not too weird, but just a really good mix of convention and weird in these beats, I dunno.. that weird face on the cover is what it sounds like.

I'm posting in this thread every two years as an interested Rap-dilettant, here's a few videos/tracks I just discovered that I really like.

Azealia Banks is all over the internet and if not already very popular, then she'll likely be soon. Anyway I love these two:

I have no idea how this stuff places itself in the world of hip hop. Could be Pitchfork "hipster"-hiphop . Anyway together with M.I.A., this is the stuff that actually opens the door to this music for me. Never cared for hip hop before discovering these particular acts. I don't take most of the lyrics too serious though. Comes across to me often as calculated bad ass or whatever attitude.

Good list! You're definitely missing his features on Gucci Mane's first World War 3 mixtape (Lean) though. Young Thug's verse on the Intro is just awesome and he has the entire track 3 (Ecstasy Pill) to himself. Also I think you ought to give Live At The Tabernacle off of 1017 Thug a listen again! Love the last part of verse 2 on that song.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a mix! Anyways, I grabbed the tracks off it I hadn't heard before, going to burn them all (+ a bunch of random tracks I got off of atrilli) to a CD for the car too ^_^

I don't listen to Thug anywhere else really. My car's got a great subwoofer but I don't have a sub in my setup at home. It's kinda hard to go back to listening to Thug sans sub after hearing the power of Stoner with the bass turned all the way up haha

Schoolboy Q's album Habits and Contradictions got a ton of play from me...so solid.

And a good place to start looking into regional rap is the Stay Hatin podcast: http://stayhatin.com. Probably some good leads on other mixes and blogs through them, too.
