I'm not sure if anyone mentioned Mammoth Grinder yet, but their album on 20 buck spin is solid. I would take their take on swedish dm and punk over a lot of the bands aping that stuff now like Nails or whatever. I think the main guy is also in the awesome Hatred Surge, as well.

Been listening to Infester's "To the Depths in Degradation" a lot lately. One of the best DM albums ever, for sure. Didn't know about it, yet it's been around since 1994.

I was intrigued by your post and checked this out. Lovely, disgusting, suffocating death metal. Vocals are ridiculously deformed. Great stuff!

Wow, I guess I'll have to check them out. To be honest, I've never really listened to them, except for their classic effigies… album, which I picked up on a whim in the late 90s (and I still love). It's not really my style of death metal anymore, but I've heard good things, and your recommendation makes me feel like I should check it out. Awful cover though. Yeesh.

I need to hear these. I was just listening to the Gevurah demo yesterday and forgot they had a Profound Lore thing out. I have the Vasaeleth on order. Super excited. I love Kramer's covers on both Vasaeleth albums. Villains plain fucking rule. So dirty, and great.

I gotta admit I smiled at hearing the Game of Thrones theme in the last track of this. Good record.

Surgucal Steel is scoring points for me, somehow this record blew my mind the first time, left me a bit cold the second and third time and now it's back to thinking it's an accomplishment.

About metal in general, this was mostly a year spent comfortably coccooned in 80s underground (I'll even place the new Darkthrone and Motorhead in the list). Steady diet of Venom's first three albums, Voivod, Bathory and early Morbid Angel. Keep trying to like American BM to no avail, aside from a few Xasthur and Judas Iscariot, and will probably refrain from any BM act signed to Thrill Jockey in the future. I wonder why is that I like the new Satyricon way more than the latest ABM hype, as I like many American extreme bands. No value judgement here, just stating a fact that I find curious, given that many BM bands that I love have a very noticeable influence from American bands like Possessed, Deicide and Morbid Angel, not to mention Slayer.

So, not putting the new Satyricon on any list, but it's a great sounding record, surprisingly warm, with no triggers (finally!) and two or three quite epic tracks that makes it worth a spin or two.

thou art lord - regal pulse of lucifer (actually the first greek metal I like, never cared for rotting christ)
prosanctus inferi - Noctambulous Jaws Within Sempiternal Night
sacryphix - the western front (quite something, very much a voice of their own)

also added White Medal's new album (thanks to Tanner), didn't know they had a new thing out. their best yet.

Botanist - Mandragora

I love this one man band. Thin, esoteric, weird (post) black metal with some Striborg echoes. The art reminds me the great Swamp Thing comic, which is a bonus.

Hey there to all of you. I see some good records over here, but I'm interested if someone can recommend me any innovative metal albums.
By innovative I mean a further search for a new sound, not mixing it with other non-metal genres.
Hope y'all can help me.
