He's playing in SF on Sunday, kinda wish I still lived in the Central coast.

Thanks for posting that. I'd love to see another Drumm/Doerner disc or at least some new improv duo releases from KD.

He also played in Brazil this past month...

Two new KD videos. Live collaboration from Brazil and a nice short gear porn session:

Hey guys,
Just joined because of this thread. I'm a fan of Kevin Drumm, I am about to purchase Sheer Hellish Miasma, which seems amazing. It seems to me like some of his recent releases are quieter...
The Obstacles of Romantic Exaggeration and Imperial Horizon both seem more drone-like than SHM.
Is this true? Or are they harsh noise tracks hiding inside ambient ones?

imperial horizon is a drone. it would be hard for it not to be dronier than something that isn't.

obstacles is quite varied, there are some harsh things but not much on the shm scale.

What other albums can you recommend? Is Sheer Hellish his "noisiest"?

For noisy Drumm Impish Tyrant is up there as the most chaotic. It is very good and intense and it will clear your sinuses.

I'll check that out. I like about half of his first release, I've seen it titled as "Guitar" or as just "Kevin Drumm".
I wish I'd seen him when he was here in September, I live near San Francisco but I missed the show

Yeah, nice. I think this one should have been noticed more. Or maybe it has? I don't keep up. I listened to it again while driving in snowy Northern WI a few days ago and was riveted.

There's a huge ass multi disc smith/Drumm colab out now or soon or something. Anyone heard it yet?

He's got a lot of different styles over the years. Try his duo with Martin Tetrault or Second for more variety.

Ill check those out. Ty

i tried purge and as happy with that, very good when crunk..or based

Not yet, but ordered it a while back... KSV takes a while to ship out orders, being a one-man operation. But their releases are well worth the wait. I'm a huge Tom Smith fan and have loved all the collabs he's done with Drumm so far, though most have been remixes (my favorite of those being "Kevom Druth & Tin Smimm - Three Atrophies, One Plague-Bearer"), and their first release, the years-in-the-making Reconquer Sleep or Disappear, is probably their best. But I'm very curious to hear these live performances, which will not be tweaked and mangled to hell but straight dumps (except for the megamix of the sixth disc.) Here's something Smith wrote on his blog during the tour:

"The KDTS tour wrapped up in Köln with a set that veered into hitherto/heretofore unexplored realms of constriction and concision. My voice was a mere attenuated rasp, and Kevin's electronics were coughing and shuddering all the while, but the emotional frissons went deeper, and some audience members flipped out completely. A couple up front bailed early, visibly angered. I immediately leapt onto their chairs, one knee on each seat, and sang a passage to the row behind. A third person complained to a friend via mobile after the gig about wanting to "hear some noise, but Drumm brought this crazy Tom Waits guy instead!" I loved that complaint - it proved our thesis. The known, so comforting, was entirely disrupted. (And it pointed to the condition of my raw, contorted vocal cords.) And, in the process, it led to the creation of more than a few shimmering pools of beauty. We're going to continue the collaboration, so all in all, mission accomplished!"

That can only be awesome...

Btw, first post here, longtime reader/lurker.

Actually I got my copy of Blue Before Blackface the other day. my disc 1 was damaged so I've gotta email Tom. but it started well until it started skipping. and disc 2 totally ruled. the material retains an incredibly live feel but is expertly re-composed as well. full of everything from fully aggressive sound to pop song covers, and interspersed with TONS of banter. only 4 more discs of audio and one of video to go....... can't wait to wrap my mind around it all.

I've honestly been kinda mixed on their collab work. I thought Reconquer Sleep Or Disappear was killer. and I also really liked Three Atrophies, One Plague Bearer. but both Mud Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Kangol did absolutely zilch for me. Not really sure why. I think "Mud..." was actually the first one I heard so I'm glad I didn't give up on following this work too easily!

edit: and to This is PRE, congrats on your first post ;)

I got mine today! Can't wait to listen.
Kangol is not my favorite of theirs either... here are some of Kevin's words on those:
although there are now 4 releases together, 3 micro and one a true collab i feel like we still have to do a proper one. the 3 cdrs on KSV are Tom remixing stuff of mine(kangol is his imperial distortion remix, mud is his obstacles of romantic exaggeration remix...),

Hmmm. So I just got Prurient and Kevin Drumm "All Are Guests In The House Of The Lord" what an album....Very powerful.
I also like the Pita/Kevin Drumm Split. The Kevin Drumm tracks "Built in Mic" and "I like the idea of a power trio" are very good.
