This one get my vote for best so far this year.
Wicket duo Felicia Atkinson / Jefre Cantu-Ledesma have put together a thoroughly provocative, absorbing ambiance that bends logic. Want to hear more from both...

Fucking awesome. Highly recommended.

骨架的 - Skeleton

One of the best plunderphonics/ vaporwave/ ambient albums I've heard, much more dark and mysterious then most using manipulated samples in interesting ways.

Image

Yann Leguay - Quasi Static Crack Propagation

Sounds from cd players, and cassette players utilized to create very interesting compositions.

Ghost- The lost of mercy/ Renown

Very good obscure polish death metal from 1994.

Caught several displays of amazing (and, to me fairly unpleasant) virtuosity on the radio this morning. One was some Earl Hines thing and the others were solos by Dave Leibman and Fred Foster on an old Elvin Jones Blue Note recording.

So much speed and dexterity--so little to say.

Funny--I prefer Tatum. Different strokes, I guess.

Maybe you agree with me about Leibman and Foster though?

since i don't even like elvin jones, i fully expected to dutifully be bored stiff (although i have a liebman hat hut which i remember being surprisingly nice?), but the first track has such nice echo on the flute, how can you possibly hate that :P ?

It's those same really fast runs over and over again. I didn't even like that kind of sax playing back in the 70s. Learn the same ornamentation in every key and try to do it faster than anybody else. It's not just repetitive (which, as a Feldman lover, I don't mind) it's ostentatious and competitive, like a peacock show.

Hines is a little different, since he's got so many more gizmos in his belt, but it has a similar effect on me. I'm impressed with his chops, but I never think what he's doing is beautiful--just impressive.

I don't get that feel from Tatum myself, but I understand that a lot of people do: I can't explain this.

He probably found his personal song and likes to be flexible with it for a wider range of tempos.
