this label was probably ten years ahead of its time, they'd get more notice if they emerged today, I think.bedouin wrote:
Xavier Charles / Jean Pallandre / Marc Pichelin - Atlanta (Ouïe-Dire, 2003)
Postcard sounds from Atlanta (of all places!).
Ouïe-Dire full length releases focused mainly on field recordings used as an extra instrument alongside musicians improvising on conventional instruments.
Atlanta, on the other hand is more of a set of audible photo-snaps taken (recorded) at various parts of the town. Indoors, outdoors, at the barber's.... Could be any town, though a few radio/tv broadcasts here and there give some hints of the place. Xavier Charles occasionally intercepts with the clarinet.
A great album done with a lot of thought, great taste and no doubt taken out of hours of recordings. Reminiscent of Ferrari's 'Far West News'.
Re: Now Playing

Disc 1 I think pound for pound a superior cross-section of this band, Santa Cruz is close (Willisau a touch overrated as time passes).

Curious, but intuitively I feel that I don't care for it anymore, because indeed, everything passes.

Sometimes I think the same. For example I didn't listen to Excellen Italian...when it came out, just to realize after a while how much I missed it. Albini and company still deliver. It's a kind of sound that I will always like. Doesn't mean I need to listen to Shellac every day, but they are always there, like an old trusted friend.
The new album sounds exactly as you would expect, the usual stuff. Not as good as At action park, which I consider their masterpiece, but it sounds excellent. Audio quality is stellar as usual, guess I'll buy a vinyl version. I also hope to see them live here in Sicily, where they have always toured thanks to the relationship with Uzeda/Bellini.

I listened to it the other day. It's more rock and roll than some of their previous albums. Agreed that production quality sounds great.

Who's the soloist, conductor and orchestra? My favorite is No. 23. with 21 as second favorite.yonhosago wrote:unami, malfatti, filip taraka (2008)

Pollini does both jobs for the price of one. It's a live recording. For every chilean of the last 30 or more years, the 21 is THE favorite.

Re: Now Playing
Pollini is awesome. Still tresure his recording of Petrushka, Prokofiev's 7th sonata, the 2nd sonata of Boulez and the Webern's Variations, ad his reading of the Diabelli Variations is, for my money, as good as the Brendel version. I have many Pollini records, only unconvinced by some Chopin. I can't think of any other pianist for ....sofferte onde serene.... and Como una ola de fuerza y luz by Nono.
