I think that's a reasonable response, fair and even somewhat complimentary in this case.
Definitely. I think this is a piece you move in and out of. I'm not sure it's even supposed to be followed linearly. The dynamics and tempo seem so stable throughout, but it's in no way mechanical or repetitive. The length suggests comparisons to something like Feldman's second string quartet, but that piece has a lot more variety and clearly discernible passages.

Funnily enough, I'm working on putting together a version of Admirable Restraint celebrating the reprinting of "Wandelweiser Und So Weiter" and I'm having to turn off the noisy heater while I'm doing so. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

jim o'rourke - long night

bed time music for a few days now, it's slow-developing and rich with subtle movement. recalls early rafael toral (drone), and some of john cale's long organ pieces from the "new york in the 1960s" series, among other things.

Beethoven string quartet No.13 in B flat Op.130, the one with the "Grosse fugue" as final movement.

You should go for that
Wow also included a 20-page booklet! Thanks for the tip bedouin, already in my list of possible purchases for the next month. The next step now is finding a way to obtain this box set here in Italy. I'll try with amazon.

I remember liking the stuff with Etron Fou Leloublan on that one.

Yes, the first side(the one with Etron Fou) contains the best songs of the album IMHO. After five or four tracks the music loses a bit of fascination to me. The first track( the one in wich there are voices of children mixed with flutes and with a guitar playing a minor scale) it's gorgeous, a perfect introduction. However I like it definitely more than "Gravity".

The cd contains two half hour concerts in Moscow and Novosibirsk in Spring 1993. Hojito plays the same four tracks in both concerts, with two or three improvisations in between. My copy comes with a bonus mini-cd with two tracks recorded in Cherepovets in September 1994.

I got it some years ago from the IMJ webshop, probably 2005. At that time, I used to like it a lot: inside piano, objects, voices,... you know. Still sounds good, get it if you like this kind of music.

The track you heard in IMJ box set is "Kaiyu", recorded live in Sapporo in 2001. This track is played twice here.

this is a very well crafted album. it's not my favorite album that yoshihide has been a part of in the eai world, that's erstlive 005. but it's still something to enjoy and be grateful for :)

r malfatti - dusseldorf vielfaches

had this on to relax, got my folks in town. dad's a boater, so i'm all "sounds like a harbor, or a water sound at night; foghorns in the distance, buoys, water movement etc." he said he could picture that, but it gave him an impression of "breaths", like a bear hibernating, slowed respiratory system, etc. i thought that was great. We listend to it twice through, no tv, having been exhausted by bill o'reilly and breaking bad. duck dynasty brought laughs, though

sadly, i've never stepped to this dude's music because of his physical appearance (in media, cd sleeves). The goatee, compounded by his beret/ponytailed mug. The album art-aesthetics were repellant... I'm an idiot. Cite a track, help me out.

I was present at one of those Painkiller gigs. Kind of missed having Mick Harris behind the drumkit, but Laswell, Zorn and Patton more than made it worthwhile. True, Patton was basically doing what Yamatsuka Eye was doing on Naked City, but he made a fine use of his effect boxes. Laswell was on fire, I remember his fingers bleeding towards the latter half of their set. Agreed on the douchebag attire, though.
