Re: The Necks?
Tony Buck and Magda Mayas have been here for a few weeks, I have to say their duo and Tony's work away from the Necks is more interesting to me personally. I feel like Tony can really take typical improv situation and make it something more - like that great "Weird Weapons" disc on Emanem.
Anyway, in preparation, I have spent more time with the Necks recently and have really enjoyed them. One interesting thing is that I made a playlist of several albums and it has been really nice to just listen to 3 or 4 in row. I like the new one, Silverwater quite a bit.

They are something to see live. The records are like a slice of what happens. I think it is all pretty improv live so at times it is amazing, other times a bit of a yawn.

Re: The Necks?
I am a rare person who is not a fan of experiencing music live, but I'd really love to see them - I still regret not seeing the Swedish American Hall gig here. More and more I am really enjoying listening to them. I think the depth of what they are doing reveals itself in repeated listens.hito wrote:They are something to see live. Gerardo and David and I were there (what a beautiful space and building! though the seats were punishingly uncomfortable) and it was a good show, but perhaps not as good as other times I'd seen them. I believe the first time I saw them was in 1993 at the Pier 1 Cafe / Restaurant in Sydney when I was just 20 years old.Damon_Smith wrote:I still regret not seeing the Swedish American Hall gig here.
