I'm starting a campaign to have the Butcher set put back an hour then I'll be happy.
It's bad enough it starts at 11pm. Some of us will have a one-and-a-half-hour drive after that show.

Did you end up going to the gig at Cafe Oto you mentioned earlier in this thread Richard?

No I didn't Dave, work got in the way unfortunately. I have made it to another one there since though, a Prevost/Wright/Coleman/Edwards free jazz blowout. Café Oto seems a great place on first impressions.

I might also get there twice more before the end of the week, though neither are certain.

Sunday, September 28th, The Void Skateshop:

John Wiese, C. Spencer Yeh.

I'm going to check it out...though I can't find my ear plugs anywhere..

Next week Fretworks is giving a free concert of early music at the University..

I'll be there if I can still hear..

I was busy & had a bit of a cold yesterday so I didn't go to the Gustafsson/Park duo, but Saturday's Relay show was good, fun. Mats has some custom-made circuit instruments and processors, and he was able to join in a nice, noisy/droney trio with Jin Sangtae and Choi Joonyong in addition to his solo on baritone sax (and another solo on electronics).

Ryu Hankil played a solo, also nice, and I played a trio with Hong Chulki and Park Seungjoon that was good, frothy fun.

I don't know the venue but looking at their website...well you're totally right!

My guess is that setting up this performance in Saint Louis has been encouraged to great extent by David Robertson. He's been very active at bridging classical music academism with more "modern" forms (whatever that means). He's now the music director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and is involved in this "guitar festival" (no kidding that's how they call it!). The program is as follows:

GLENN BRANCA Symphony No. 14, “The Harmonic Series” (World Premiere)
2,000,000,000 Light Years From Home, Part I
ZAPPA G-Spot Tornado
VARÈSE Arcana
GLENN BRANCA Symphony No. 13, “Hallucination City”

Robertson will be conducting the first 3 pieces and John Myers the 4th.

Next day at The Pageant will be a "tribute to Led Zeppelin"...oh well you're totally right again!
