oh wow, nice. definitely one of the better 'idm' records to come out in recent memory.... 'rock on' is the jam.

here are some of my most listened to records of 2005, off the top of my head. nothing too drastically different from what we've seen:

Rowe/Nakamura/SachikoM/Yoshihide - EL005
Joe Colley - Psychic Stress Soundtracks
Sean Meehan - Sectors (for Constant)
Norbert Moslang - Capture
Los Glissandinos - Stand Clear
Ernie Althoff - Dark By 6
Omit - Tracer
Guerra/Earle - In
Astromero - s/t
T.E.F. and Bastard Noise - Astronomical Sound Images
Keith Berry - The Ear that was Sold to a Fish
Arek Gulbenkoglu - Points Alone
v/a Nitro Dragsters: A Tribute to OVMN and the Incapacitants
v/a - At The End of the Rope (this is 2005 right?)
God - Anti-Sex Anti-Wiretapping
Burning Star Core - Mes Soldats Stupides
Akiyama/Muller - Points and Slashes
Bird Show - Green Inferno
Tenement Halls - Knitting Needles and Bicycle Bells
Paul Wall - The People's Champ

unfortunately i've got a big ole' stack of new shit that i havent even begun to tap into.

Yeah thats a nice one Ryan. I only received a week or two back so its still on regular rotation here. Hard to describe, somewhere between Steve Roden and Jeph Jerman and at the same time nothing like either.

Installation pieces sometimes requiring audience involvement, all really interesting stuff. you really need to read the sleeve notes and check out the photos to gain better understanding of this one.

hey richard,
glad your enjoying this one! there wasn't so much talk about this CD unfortunately but for me it was also (obviously!) a favourite for 2005...
enjoy

Dunno if you edited something out, but I'm not offended by anything you said in your post. My snarky line originated in your avowal that you download most of your stuff in another thread (attendtion record label owners or whatever it's called) which rubbed me up the wrong way. I think I was the dick here

OK, here we go. My first XI of 2005:

1. Rowe/Nakamura/M/Yoshihide - EL005 (Erstlive)

2. Graham Halliwell - Recorded Delivery (Confront Collectors Series)

3. Tetuzi Akiyama - Route 13 to the Gates of Hell: Live in Tokyo (Headz)

4. 4G - Cloud (Erstwhile)

5. Los Glissandinos - Stand Clear (Creative Sources)

6. Khanate - Capture and Release (Hydra Head)

7. John Wall - Cphon (Utterpsalm)

8. Tony Conrad/Faust - Outside The Dream Syndicate Alive (Table of the Elements) (recorded in 1995 but only just released)

9. Tomas Korber - Effacement (Cut)

10. Mark Wastell - Vibra #2 (Longbox)

11. Will Guthrie - Spear (Antboy)

Reissues of the year:

The Van Der Graaf Generator reissues (EMI/Charisma). Done properly at last, with some very good extra tracks. Time for the solo albums now, please.

Stereolab - Oscillations From The Anti-Sun (Too Pure) The 3CD non-chronological round up of non-album tracks is helpful, even if I have them all on vinyl, but the cherry on top is the DVD of all their videos and their rather weedy appearance on "Later".

Gentle Giant - The Power And The Glory and In A Glass House (DRT Entertainment) Nice transfers, nice booklets, pity about the slipcases.

Best recording of audience members leaving mid-set:

Taku Sugimoto - Live In Australia (IMJ)

Oh come on, clearly I'm not saying that, and I doubt seriously that that was dialecticbricks' point either. I just don't understand why Konono no.1 has gotten so much attention, but I don't see why it would be necessary to couch that in 'personal opinion' caveats as it should be understood.

I've not payed much attention to Konono no. 1 until y'all said it was overrated. So I downloaded some to hear for myself why they get more hype than they apparently deserve...

14 pages of this and still half of my picks weren't represented - i don't know if this means i live in an alternate reality or if everyone just thinks my tastes suck...you make the call:

It struck me as a personal opinion about other people's personal opinions rather than about the music per se. But maybe that's just me.
