So I finally took the bait, here's my list. I think Brian O.'s and mine are similar (more jazz-centric). I included two different albums of the same artist in six ineludible cases (Coltrane, Jarrett, Fela, Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe and Sleep), three bootlegs (hugely smoking stuff: David Murray solo on tenor in the late 70's; a late 90's gig of the ICP with Brotzmann and Roswell Rudd; and Japanese groove jazz troupe Shibusa Shirazu Orchestra), and two compilations (Bad Religion and Mose Allison; both include most of my favorite songs of said artists).

Surprisingly, it took a little more than one hour to assemble it (I had already made a list of my top 25), although I checked my cd list once or twice. It felt longer to order them than to come up with the albums.

Anyway, what a fun thread. Would love to read other people's lists, especially from Fearandpanic, Mari and Jon Abbey (whose top 100 jazz and rock lists, posted in JC a while ago, are very very good).
