Clouds / Tes La Rok - Shallow 12''
great single! unfamiliar with clouds but they have piqued my interest.

Beautiful sleeves. I have no idea about Nielsen's music? What is it like?surfer wrote:

He's a Romantic, though he composed in the early 20th century alongside other Modernists. His early work it seems (I've only listened to the Piano Trio and other early works once through) was almost Mozart-ish. His later work like the Wind Quintet from 1922, which is one of my favorite pieces on any of the disks, is more Late Romantic, switch from extremely lyrical and pensive, to more experimental developments in tone, similar to Sibelius in a way. This really short 2-minute movement is the third movement: Praeludium http://www.youshare.com/Guest/a35211/DisplaySimple which works with blocks of sound, and some great solo work on the oboe, i think. I also like the violin sonatas on disk two. First Sonata starts off strong and confrontational before mutating into a melodic strain that winds its way to the end. The second starts pretty but is played completely drained of emotion, listen to the climax they eventually build up to (edit: I posted it to the same link above).Richard Pinnell wrote:

I can definitely recommend all three, but the Wind Quintet puts that one a notch above.

I like that one a lot..but I think I'd like it a lot more if the bass playing was stronger..fearandpanic wrote:

Me too.Dohol wrote: I like that one a lot..
Yeah, he's fine while supporting in the group passages and in the many unison parts doubling Braxton, but maybe he doesn't hold the attention so well when he's leading a section. Oxley's amazingly liquid-sounding, especially on the first track.but I think I'd like it a lot more if the bass playing was stronger..
