i've been looking for that g-side album. trying to download it since i know stores aren't going to carry it in california. i absolutely cannot stop listening to that "speed of sound" track. block beataz are my new favorite producers.

anyway: glad to hear that the whole album is good. i'll look even harder now, or i might break down and buy it.

Ron Browz, the dude who produced Nas' "Ether" has broken the stranglehold of equal temperament with autotune. Picture this: a CD box set on Just Dreams... T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Ron Browz - Tha Dream Syndicate. Nothing but straight up just intonation fire.

it was bound to get out of hand, i mean.. puff is giving t-pain royalties on his next album just because he's using t-pain's signature effect? kanye's next album is all autotune. what else?

pretty sure ron browz must be using melodyne, not autotune. that would explain it.

so melodyne allows 1/4 tones and such, and autotune doesn't?

it's funny how the comments i've seen about ron browz talk about how out of tune he is.

in melodyne, you record the melody you want to sing as midi, and whatever audio you then put into it snaps to the melody you've already played. it's more like a pitch shifting vocoder in that way. that's how ron browz's hook is one note on "pop champagne"-- everything he sings snaps to that one note, regardless of the notes he's actually singing. (whereas autotune shifts every note a person sings to the closest note in the scale, in real time.) and since it's controlled by midi, i'm sure he can do microtonal stuff. or perhaps he throws it out of tune by pitch shifting the audio afterwards, i don't know.

That starshipz and rocketz album is real nice. I am writing up some junk for both of em i will post later. Really exciting shit in that camp.

I will also throw out a shout out for bohagon. His newer track "sing the blues" is ghetto soul as in david banner "cadillac on 22s".

The Rza and Gza albums are kind of enjoyable

Yeah, the G-side record trumps the Fear and Loathing mixtape, even. It's very good. I was really stoked for the mix, but I think the production these Alabama guys are doing is more interesting than the remixes....
