I'm sentenced to the gulag, I have only a few picks for a soundtrack for my remaining days, I'm taking this one.

i think there's one hour left. i have caught a few hours, the new keith/sachiko and ami/toshi and a couple other things. new stuff sounded awesome. it's kind of a crappy stream (56 kbps) but it still came through somewhat. ami yoshida's vocalizations are off the hook, you couldn't hear toshi as well (on my work's beige plastic PC speakers). same with the keith/sachiko duo, she usually came through more audibly for whatever reason. still F-ing sick though.

I listened to the entire eight hours; though I turned it off as soon as Lescalleets kid started singing (I've got no time for that kind of saccharine sentimentality). Anyway it was a hell of way to spend a day, we'd had one of those typical PNW snow "storms" where we get a couple of inches overnight and it melts mostly away during the day. Still not much cause to be outside so a day spent listening to various new and interesting musics on a low bit rate stream was welcome. I got a bunch of blog work done and read another chunk of the Cardew bio and during the noisey bits (was that Imperial distortion?) did the dishes. When the Ami/Toshi came on though I had to stop everything and just listen for a good while. I dunno how much of it was the low bit rate stream, certainly that added some hiss and wobbly but damn Ami was getting odd texture and effects (perhaps she was using some effects?) and the synchronisty between her and Toshi was down right scary at times. Moreso when you consider how it was made. I got to say that was the most exciting music I've heard in a long time, way more interesting then the live set I saw of them (though they was quite enjoyably). For sure my most anticipated disc for aught nine.

I also quite enjoyed the Sachiko/Keith, though most of it seemed well in the range of what I'd heard them do at the Amplify. But considering that was one of the best sets there, well good :) The one bit with Sachiko on contact mics was a lot more interesting then her solo there as well, Keith stayed sparse but added enough deliberation and texture to open that right up. Also enjoyed hearing the Keith solo set from Amplify, I haven't got the cds yet (will this week) but it sounds as powerful as I remember.

Anyway a great job Jon, a really nice mix of stuff with great flow. One amusing note at one point the stream stopped (dunno why) and it went to the next thing in my "recently added" playlist which was some 70s fusion Sun Ra, called languidity (which I have to say based on the bit I heard, not a favorite Ra piece). For about 5 minutes I'm wondering just what the hell is this, when is something going to come in and rip into this cheesy fusion? Good times. Oh and I fed the stream into my good stereo and while there was the aforementioned artifacting I was impressed by how much bass got through, especially in the drumm (?) and lescalleet tracks.

note: could be wrong on what any or all of what played; just going off what it sounded like to me.

the drumm piece was probably impish tyrant, not imperial distortion. the latter not being all that noisy.

was out and about too much this afternoon, only managed to hear bits of sachiko/rowe.

On the original Nato vinyl. As eccentric as Gould's Appassionata.
Wonder what Gumpert is doing these days?

Well, some shitty jazz first. Sorry. I'd forgotten how much I dislike mainstream "contemporary" jazz. Even if Keith and Julie Tippett(s) are playing on it.

Were you reading the score at the same time? First time I've ever done this, interesting experience.

No. but I only heard a portion of it due to domestic duties. I plan on listening to it later and will do so. Thanks.
