After one session I'm supposed to form an opinion???
So far, all I know is I like the photography though.... :D
Well, my opinion after one shot through is that the new Fennesz is super lame. But you're free to keep trying to find a moment of quality buried in it after a few more listens....
In general, I'd think that to have an INITIAL thought or opinion after listening to an album the first time is pretty normal. I'd be a bit concerned about a record that leaves NO impression at all..

RF, why did you hate it?

It's hard to pinpoint. I didn't see the point of the music and felt zero impulse to try to listen again. I mean, I can't insist at this point that its BAD music but it all mostly bored me. Had a hard time listening all the way through.
The grammatical rules associated with diagrammatic reduction become apparent by considering a more tractable diagrammatic representation, applied to the Windsor knot in Fig. 8. - Fink & Mao, Tie knots, random walks and topology, (Physica A 276)

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

Yeah..he never reached that peak again.

I saw him play with Mark Isham sometime around 89 0r 90 and he ruled..

I wish I could find the heart to like that duo thing on ECM or the Everyman Band stuff, but I just can't..

This one (unlike a clutch of other Kelley releases I have) took some time (and whatever other permutations with my ears/sensibilities) to grab me, but it does. The narrative that seems self-evident now was abstract enough that the piece was a grower. Check it out.
