yeah, that set became rather violent, especially after the table and the metal chair were being flung about in the crowd. it seemed like carlos had to step in and stop the set before it became too much of a mess.

I thought it was also a really killer set though, even musically.

I came in during the last 5 minutes of Hive Mind's set, and while I would have liked to see it, it was worth being outside during it. You could hear the metal in the awning rattling, pretty incredible.

I'm super bummed that I missed SIXES though. Anyone see him?

he was pretty solid..i missed out on Pod Blotz tonight,,,they played my place the other day and ruled. i wanted to see them again.

macronympha? a melee of chairs, tables, bottles and assorted items flying back and forth from stage to audience. scantily clad women (electrical tape on nipples, natch) and a whole lot of people ending up on stage wrestling with each other. sort of fun to watch if you werent dodging head missles.

SJ: i would have dug the noise a lot more if not for the, um, "lyrics." could care less about the grim, portentous imagery. the noise usually says it all anyway.

i was kind of tired and irritated at this point and didnt stay for wolf eyes, id love to hear what happened there. daniel menche was my fave for the evening.

aaron dilloway is a being of pure evil

also, menche's set was incredible but i think my favorite was either tarantism or hive mind

hm was mind melting, totally destroyed me. need more of his stuff on record

and macro was fun to watch, but i wouldnt have wanted to be up there

bloodyminded the same way, i left before they were over just because it was getting unenjoyable

but my ears are ringing like crazy

Wolf Eyes was INCREDIBLE last night... Dilloway comes out halfway through... amazing. Ear plugs knocked into the crowd from a foot to the face, tinnitus playing a solo set in my head right now.

not too big on SJ... in between Macro and Wolf Eyes it was especially weak.

I mostly hovered around the main stage area and the courtyard, so I didn't get to check out too many of the basement acts other than Spider Compass Good Crime Band who charged at the audience in homemade eerie flamingo costumes. Menche was my favorite of the night, but Macronympha and Bloodyminded had very entertaining sets. I really liked White Rock too, I think they're criminally underrated right now. Wolf Eyes absolutely blew Sutcliffe Jugend away who played before them. Overall the event was really well organized and the staff was nice.

I talked to Spencer from the Skaters and the two guys from Birds of Delay, really nice guys...can't wait to see Skaters play in the basement tonight. Also looking forward to seeing Shackamaxon, Fat Worm, No Neck & Burning Graveyards + Corsano. It was really funny to see C Spencer Yeh so drunk too, I didn't really expect to see him so utterly inebriated..haha.

yeah, white rock had this freight train vs. jetliner drag race sound that was rather cool. definitely enjoyed that one.

Congratulations CFF, after some 25 or so posts (discounting the photos...) you are the first person to try and actually describe what something sounded like...

C'mon guys, help us out here. I may be an aging old fart of a Brit that doesn't understand, but at least I'm an open minded one that wants to at least try and understand what it is about the noise thing that drives some pretty intelligent people in thier hordes to a show like this...

Surely there is more to listen to in this music than sheer volume and physical violence? Those two elements are alone are surely old hat by now?
The general consensus is that Dilloway was the highlight of the show... so what made his music better than the rest of the bill? I don't doubt that there is something, but there's nothing in the above threads that throws any light on this.. help me out? What actual sounds did he make? How did they differ from everyone else? What is there to take from this music beyond the mere physical experience?

This post isn't meant to antagonise, just to try and understand what drives so many people to have such a great time! Thanks

my day three highlights,,i think tonight was one of my favorite prurient sets...next to his collabo with thurston about a year ago..it was just so different than what im used to..a lot of texture..awesome low rumble..more processed vocals..i love how personal and sincere his sets are and i think his new live setup is letting him do a lot more with the ideas he works with.

sick llama...i saw heath in my basement a couple weeks ago and it ruled..i think he actually sounded better at my house but it was still awesome..he gets a great low and jumps around when you least expect it

john wiese.,.maybe one of the best sets ive ever see,,holy shit,,ridiculous bass,,i noticed for a lot of sets tha pa at the hook favored low end but with wiese he actually took more advantage of it than most and still pulled out these rad highs and mids..i cant even really describe the set all that much,,it was just a serious expierence..that dude is just untouchable in my eyes

Pure blasts of physical and mental energy that you would have to experience live to understand, the sound of pure intensity, and everyone is fuckign getting better by the minute. the violence in some cases its only a conduit for it. for most,not even necessary.

Agree. On top of that, Dilloway really didn't even use sheer volume as a device, nor was their any violence really going on (there was certainly a physical element, but i saw that as more a visceral reaction to the sound by the audience than a gimmick, at least in this case).

umm. . . i'm not sure that's really gonna help anyone know what it actually *sounds* like. .. that could be the label promo for any black metal record. or some bad hip-hop for that matter. . .
